A*Men vs. Hypnotic Poison

Which one do you prefer and why?

I do like A*Men's drydown but not very fond of the lingering opening notes. The fragrance differs a lot and sometimes smells harsh and rather unpleasant while other times it can be dark, heavy caramely and delightful. I have not sampled Hypnotic Poison but I plan on it.

Hypnotic Poison = Vanilla + Almonds with a little powder sprinkled in for good measure. Nice, and non-offensive.

A*Men.... there has been a lot said about this one. Over the top. Too many sprays and it turns into chemical warfare juice. Rumored to have been used by Sadam against the Kurds.

That being said, I prefer wearing the A*men and I don't care how many small children it makes cry.

Having actually tried both of them, I would go with Hypnotic Poison - or even better, Hypnotic Poison Elixir.

Hypnotic Poison is icy vanilla with insane sillage but no obnoxious screech like the Angels. I like A*Men, but I think Hypnotic Poison is seamless and much more palatable and agreeable.

I voted Hynotic, although I have to be in the right mood for it. A*Men just seems like a more sober Angel, which is no fun at all.

dreamer81, I mentioned in another thread that L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme reminded me of the almond/vanilla/spice aspects of Hypnotic Poison, so maybe check that one out. It's less sweet and slightly more woody, but with some similar "foody" notes, to my nose.

I chose Hypnotic Poison and I haven't even smelled it yet. Sorry A-Men lovers, but I plan to dilute my A-Men with vodka and then do some experiments with it. I'll let you know what happens.

Haven't smell Hypnotic Poison but I want to so bad along with Midnight Poison.

To me A*men smells purely like armpit and not in a good way. I think I'll be a very good alternative to pepper spray but too bad it's too expensive lol

I went for Hypnotic Poison, simply because, not only A*Men makes me choke, but also, Hypnotic Poison does have some subtleties hard to come by in A*Men

:-). Yes, I have a sample of it. Its not bad, but there are zillion sweet fragrances that I like better :-) So if its like G2 its not for me. I will try to sample Hypnotic in local perfumery but last time I checked they had almost all Poisons except of Hypnotic . God ,please give me power to spray this on my wrist in front of SA in this perfume forgotten land :-).

I choose hypnotic poison because in my opinion, the vanilla and almond combination is absolutely entrancing and addicting. I love the smell of it.

Angel men is nice, but at times a bit too sweet for me, still an amazing scent

My vote is for Hypnotic Poison. It was the first fume I really connected with, like eleven years ago. It doesn't get as much skin time anymore, but I can't imagine my wardrobe without it.

A*Men was the first chocolate scent I tried that I actually got right off. It reminds me of devil's food cake. I do like it, but not for me. I've tried to get my DH to wear it, but it reminds him too much of Angel, so he won't go near it.

If you like the almond note in HP, then not really, I've not found it in a frag marketed at men. My favourite unisex almond is Etro Heliotrope.

And then there is an almond feel to Marzipan and PlayDoh notes (1881 Black, Pi, respectively).

If you like the Creme Brûlée in HP, then try Joop Thrill Man.

around here is typical the "every frag can be worn by everyone" motto. And that's just about it, i'm starting to try a few "female frags" myself and, while some of them are too femenine (too sweet, or femenine in the way actual market has stated as "femenine") most of them can be worn perfectly by a man.

Try Kelly Caleche (edt) by Hermés, and you'll start to get the picture.

The gentleman should not be bashed. Gentle persuasion, then live and let live, but no bashing.

I'm sure many men are like me and have a problem with floral notes that are then not balanced out with woody or earthy notes. This applies to most perfumes sold to women, but also a fair few sold to men as well (Jaipur, Dior Homme, I'm looking at you...)!

I cannot pull off Hypnotic Poision, too flowery. Midnight Poison though, is another matter, my wife and I are thinking of buying a bottle to share between us

Many times fragrances marketed for women are more masculine than feminine and vice versa. Fleur Du Male and Light Blue Pour Femmeare some examples. Hypnotic Poison is absent of floral notes and is a gourmand so it's unisex.

I sprayed one little shot of HP on the back of my wrist at the store yesterday. While it's a really nice vanilla, its seriously overpowering. Makes A*Men seem soft and gentle in its delivery.

It is funny how descriptions/reviews of fragrances can make you recognize fragrances you never smelled in real.

It is almost year since I met one beautiful lady that left very sensual vanilla/almond scent cloud behind her. I wasnt sure what it is but it smelled classy, sexy, sensual and my guess was that it had to be Hypnotic Poison. Now I finally have Hypnotic Poison sample and it really was Hypnotic Poison that I smelled 1 year ago...

My sample of HP is just EDT (and I think that HP is ONLY EDT, but HP elixir is EDP?) but on my skin it definitely doesnt have projection of A*Men. It is not even close. And even if projection would be same, HP doesnt have so bold notes that it would became disturbing to my nose. In its simplicity it is similiar to Givenchy Pi, but doesnt smell synthetic at all (like first hour of Pi).
Masculinity of HP is questionable (it is definitely unisex but little bit more on feminine side) and I cant see very masculine guy wear it but it fits me well (I am more on metro guy side so I can pull it easy)

A*Men is definitely more masculine, more complex and goes through many stages of development. Also as I said it is much more bold, sillage is stronger, longetivity probably too and is caramel, patchouli, coffee, honey, chocolate combo while Hypnotic Poison is simple vanilla + almond.

It is hard to pick which one is better. HP is definitely more "safe" scent and almost anyone but most masculine huge guys can pull it of. I wont be afraid to wear it to office.

A*Men on other side will make you epicentrum of chocolate caramel patchouli explosion so you better be hell of confident guy to handle attention that you will get.
