Default You Were Right - PDN New York DOES Smell Like BDP

Made a trip to Scent Bar yesterday. PDN NY is perhaps a bit less formal (which for me is a good thing) and much less expensive than BDP. Still, there's no doubting the similarities.

Yeah, Adonis, but did you give a long wear? I find it blasts out of the bottle EXACTLY like BdP, but starts to take it's own path soon after.

I bought a 30ml based on that and while it's a nice scent, it seems pretty different a couple hours into wearing. BdP doesn't seem to work too well on me and I was hoping this would be better. It's not for me.

While I love Bois du Portugal, I rank New York (and Heritage, for that matter) higher.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

I'm about 2 hours into my sample so we'll see. What direction do the two take?

I'm not sure on the chronology... does BDP smell like NY, or is it the other way around? Either way NY is my pick for the superior fragrance.

I find that it's after the first hour that the greater similarities between the two show up. After that time elements of NY change and settle in to the BdP vibe. NY therefore is the scent with the greatest changes through the wearing.

They're both great for me no doubt.

"smells like" seems a bit too reductive to me. I see New York as a far more complex fragrance than BdP, even if they converge at certain points of NY's development. Complex does not mean better, though, and while both are great, I prefer the smoky sharpness of BdP to the sweetness and powder in NY.

Having purchased decants of both, its New York that I found FBW...

Mostly, it was the abovementioned linearity of BdP that tipped the scales in Nicolai's favour.

One thing I did notice - longevity of NY wasn't close to that of BDP. It's still a good 6-8 hour wear (the first 2-3 hours have some really good sillage going on). BDP stays on my skin for calendar days.

Who was right? For me, BdP was enjoyable up front, but once the soapy lavender emerged, I had no interest in it. NY had too much orange blossom for me (perhaps combined with lavender made it really irritating after a while). I would actually prefer Quorum to either one, though I might have to dilute it a bit.

I like both , yet they are differend to me. Bois Du Portugal is a bit more sharp and dry in the opening.

NY has more clove in it and the vanilla/oak moss drydown is better and more composed.

Similarities yes, but New York is the best of the two! BDP is to sharp for my taste. I am very close to buy a bottle of New York, but i already own several "formal" scents such like YSL M7, Creed Tabarome, Acier Aluminium, and Hermes Equipage. I`m afraid this will be superfluous, because it isn`t eny better than non of them i mention above..

It's certainly more affordable than BDP.
