Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... Top Notes: Calabrian Citron, Neroli
Heart Note: Buffalo Grass, Sycomore Wood, Cedar
    Base Note: Patchouli, Amber, Vanilla

Lui is a very comforting woody scent, with bits of fresh, green and floral. On me, it goes through a bit of a rough patch between the top and middle notes, but it recovers very quickly, and the rest of the ride is very pleasant. I think this can be a dress-up scent, but I wouldn't exclude it from casual attire days. Maybe not for torn jeans... I don't know what buffalo grass is, but it reminds me of something I first knew as sweet grass. I think it contributes that bit of sweetness I find in this fragrance.

It's the 1st of March and the spring is definitely there. Fresh crystal air, sunshine and snowdrops. A friend of my told she could smell the snowdrops. But apparently not all of them are fragrant - I couldn't find any yet. But if they could smell, they would probably smell like:

Last week was designer week this week is small perfumer week.

    Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Cimabue

Every one of the artisanal perfumers that I regularly wear manage to introduce me to a new accord that I find fascinating. Dawn Spencer Hurwitz is no exception to this rule. One of the first fragrances I tried by her was Sienna because of the cinnamon centered scent it was supposed to be, and it is that. The accord that I really was intrigued with in Sienna was this steamed rice accord that she used to create the foundation for the cinnamon to float above. As I explored other fragrances in the Dawn Spencer Hurwitz oeuvre the one I knew I needed to try was Cimabue because it also contained this same rice accord along with a generous soupcon of other spices. I knew that, based on Sienna, Cimabue could be an excellent fragrance for me.

The top of Cimabue begins with a lovely citrus melange of orange, lemon, and bergamot. This leads into the rice accord but this time there is a big shot of saffron added and this makes this part of the fragrance smell like the most lovely risotto and if it ended there it would be nice. Instead the olfactory chef, Ms. Hurwitz, layers in spice after spice starting with cardamom and nutmeg, followed by cinnamon, clove, and honey. As this moves into the base sandalwood and vanilla are stirred into this heady recipe. All along the feel of steamy richness envelops and elevates Cimabue like leaning into a creamy risotto and taking a deep breath.

Cimabue has average longevity and average sillage.

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz has entered her olfactory kitchen and in true artisanal style has cooked up a unique dish that I want to keep returning to again and again like I do my favorite restaurants.

    Have a Magnificent Monday everyone.
