In isolation, I don't think that this fragrance is miles better than others in my collection but there is something worryingly familiar about it. It is a strange situation with this scent as it provokes some sort of memory for me but I cant make out what it is - I know that sounds strange but it is the only time that I have tried something that has stopped me in my tracks

    Does that make any sense?

Fico di Amalfi - what a beguiling, fresh and creamy scent. I am curious to see how long this persists on my person.

Vettiveru was a revelation. I am a big fan of this beautifully and simply composed fragrance.

Finally got my nose on Chanel's Égoïste. I had the opportunity to sniff it at the duty free shop
at LAX and it was love at first sniff. Should have pulled the trigger right then and there but
mulled it over for a day or two and ordered a bottle from Chanel. This will be high in my
rotation when the cool autumn weather comes a calling.

Dior Fahrenheit. I had passed it by for years without ever giving it a try, just assuming it was "dated" and "not for me." I finally gave it a smell just a couple of months ago, and I was indeed "wowed." I paid full retail at a department store, which I pretty much never do, but I had to have a bottle right then and there so I could wear it that evening. Maybe my favorite fragrance ever, in just the short time I have owned it.

Unfortunately all of the retailers that carry this line in the US only offer the feminine ones. Had to get the two mens bottles from FIF. Would love to hear your thoughts when you have a chance to try it.

If it's not available in the US easily, then I'll have a problem obtaining it until way later in the year when I hit Germany. For now, I'm taking quite a few scents with me down to the Caribbean, and there's... it's very slim pickings.

I could not test it and bought it blind as it was only €9 for 100ml.
For this price it is really good! A nice, mainly vetiver-bergamot-nutmeg combo, sweetened by pineapple and amber. It is an oriental fougere that can easy be worn in warmer weather as well and the smell is hard to dislike and also pretty original imo.

I agree, recently tried this and was amazed at the individuality of the scent. Truly different to anything else and a great performer.

My choice would have to be DSquared Potion Royal Black. Picked it up on a recommendation, not what I expected at all. I was prepared for a Noir de Noir experience and what I got was Encre Noire, quite a surprise with all that vetiver blasting through open opening but what a scent once it settles down and the rose and leather accord present themselves.

Plus it seems to last forever and project for an eternity. A very dark scent overall that is mysterious and inviting all at once.

I agree on Lampblack. The ink note paired with the grapefruit in this is extremely satisfying; I enjoy it more than CdG2 now (itself a brilliant scent but a tad too powdery as my personal tastes have changed). Great artistic concept as well.

Apparently you can strike Leather Oud off that list and put it in the "vintage" category already... it has already been tamed if some other BNers are to be believed!

I am on another one of my two to three times a year Las Vegas vacation fragrance testing binges and not many compositions outside of ones I already own impressed me, but the bottle of Javanese Patchouli at the Zegna boutique at Crystals absolutely *did*! I never thought I was much of a patchouli fanatic, but more and more of my compositions have a significant patchouli component and this stuff has made a believer out of me. Buying a bottle was an easy decision. Outstanding stuff.

Not a new one - I've had this one for a long time now, but haven't cracked the bottle to even take a sniff from it all summer long - hot weather and all. But today a little voice in my head told me to take a sniff of Tom Ford Amber Absolute... and I did. It reminded me how gloriously awesome it is. Love absolutely everything about it, from the opening, to mid notes, to late drydown. Can't wait for the winter to come (well, in my case, that means 75-80 degree days, 60-70 degree evenings) so I can wear it again.

One word to describe it: WOW!!

BINGO! This one is not easy to get but it is oh so good. Wore it today. Amazing scent with great longevity and quite masculine after a touch of powder wears off at the start. One of the best rose based scents I have tried...and I have tried a lot in my search for a rose scent that does not smell like soap or Grandma's panty drawer.
