What made you turn to the dark side? I don't see that you've posted a review of this one in the directory.

About Le Mâle: It is necessary to know the enemy... (OK, removing tongue from cheek now).

It is very powdery, and even more so in the drydown, and it strikes me that young men like this scent because it has a certain aura of naïveté. Is it bland? Well, yes, but the ingredients are good quality, and it is fairly well balanced among fresh, spicy, and oriental notes. I must say, the development is very slight, and for the life of me, I can't figure from the pyramid where all that powder is coming from. I might wear this on an intensely sunny day to the State Fair while eating cotton candy (candy floss to you Brits, or fairy floss to the Oz... wink, wink, nudge, nudge), but it might very easily make my teeth hurt. I'll try it someday and see if it takes years off my life. (Damn! My tongue keeps slipping into my cheek!)

    Vetiver Extreme by Guerlain

I hated this, the first time I smelled it. But, now that I am a certified Vetiver Fan Club member, I am enjoying this much more.

I see where JP Guerlain was going with this one - clearly he was aiming for those Givenchy Vetiver aficionados. No tobacco, a clean watery note and gobs of vetiver with that signature iodine-rich tanginess to it.

Today I bought my first Serge Lutens. I've tried quite a few from this line and whilst I aknowledge that they are quality scents I haven't been wowed by any, that's until I tried....

Today, by mail from the perfumer

    Soivohle'
    Oud Lacquer
    (2009)
    Liz Zorn
    Spicy Oriental
    ------------------
Top Note: Linden Flower, Anise, Cèpes, Orange, Petitgrain
Middle Notes: Orange Blossom, Rose, Agalaia, Champaca,Orris Root, Cinnamon, Clove
Base Notes: Cocoa Absolute, Honey, Woody Notes, Tolu Balsam, Styrax, Patchouli, Benzoin, Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Angelica Root Oil
    ------------------
The first and most noticeable note is the spice, cinnamon and clove, and this continues for quite awhile. Eventually, some floral notes begin to emerge, and the angelica root and anise start to peek around a far corner. The scent is quite strong and distinct, but without an offensive sillage. After a while longer, I may be able to report on the rest of the notes. I've only had it on for about an hour, and the tiniest little bit has proved quite powerful.

I still think it's totally deserving of its sales status - a real masterpiece. If it was niche, everyone would be going goo goo ga ga over it.

Picked up a 100 ml. bottle of Lanvin L'Homme Sport off Ebay. I think it's one of the best releases of 2009, nothing like the original and much better.

Scored a vintage bottle (70's) of Guerlain's Mitsouko EDC. The round bottle with the spire on top. I'm stoked to get it. Can't wait. Never smelled Mitsouko in any form so it's blind, but I figure it's one of those "must tries," right?

Can't wait to see if it's got any link to regular Kouros.
