Ce Soir ou Jamais - Annick Goutal
Thread: S O T D Friday 5 March 2010
Testing Ineke's Field Notes from Paris. I'm afraid I don't like this at all :-(
Feel better soon, dear Trikki!

Wishlist is pointless.
Thank you for the kind welcome, everyone. :-)
I'm killing time before I have to leave for work. Ironic, since I am usually running out the door at the last possible minute, applying lipstick and putting on shoes as I run for the car. I had to get my daughter to school very early, so I had time for a Starbucks run (must. have. coffee!) and play time on the internet.
Have a fabulous Friday, all!
Thanks to the generous sample from a very special BaseNoter, I'm in my third full wearing of Givrine, by E. Coudray. It's been on my WishList since my first wearing, but I just promoted it to five-star status (another one!) What a seductive and beautiful fragrance - a fresh and vivacious but soft green floral. Despite the fruit in the pyramid, I don't get any real fruitiness, and just a touch of sweetness. The fruit just seems to give the florals some tangy sparkle at the top, and a bit of lusciousness at the heart. But the peony and violet (I don't get any gardenia) are the standouts to me, and they're gorgeous over the warm and creamy sandalwood and clean musk. The sillage is stunning.
Although I wouldn't say they smell alike, I'd put Givrine near Estee Lauder's Pleasures in the floral family, but Givrine is much more subtle, and a lot more elegant and luxurious. I find Pleasures rather sharp, and I have to be in the right mood for its pink pepper note, thankfully absent in the silky, smooth Givrine. Another fragrance that comes to mind is Ralph Lauren's original Lauren, but again, Givrine isn't sharp or insistent - it's the slightly spicy green floral accord that they have in common...it might just be the treatment of the violet. At any rate, to my nose Givrine is superior to these, and I'm having a hard time coming up with an example of this type of floral that Givrine would not outshine.
Top notes - bergamot, kumquat, watermelon
Middle notes - peony, lily-of-the-valley, violet, gardenia
Bottom notes - sandalwood, patchouli, musk, blonde woods
I missed it too, so Happy Belated Birthday, Rtamara!
Happy Birthday ECaruthers!
Welcome Reine and NeedCoffee!
Y'all have a great day!

First post in here, hello :)
Today I am wearing a sample of Czech & Speake's Frankincense & Myrrh. It's a crisp but sunny day, and this seems to match that and is working very well.

Top notes: whisky, cognac, Korean calamus, wild carrot
Middle notes: tanned leather, Iris of Florence rhizome, Brazilian copahu essence

SMM, I enjoyed your review. Sugarwood sounds like a must-try for me, as I chewed the occasional sugar cane in my youth, too. (Chergui brings that back for me, a bit.)
Also sending warm Happy Birthday wishes to ECaruthers!
My SotD is the amazing, head-clearing Timbuktu. A happy girl am I.

Happy Birthday ECaruthers!
Today I analysed data of a study we conducted - and the data seem to be good enough for publication. Yay! Additionally to filling out a questionnaire we also measured our participants' eyemovements (with an eyetracker). I've not taken a look at the eyemovement data yet, but if we find something on that measure it would be very cool indeeed (or as the prof would say: "sexy" ).
SotD was Chanel No 22
Yosh's Ginger Ciao for me today.

Welcome back Needcoffee- Probaly I didn't know you before but I LOVE your new name.
to business- It's a sunny 66 F day in coastal California and I'm starting the weekend in Balmain de Balmain
Asha and Kumquat, those are gorgeous photos!
Today I'm wearing Annick Goutal's Le Chèvrefeuille. Amazing how it reduces fine lines and wrinkles, nips in the waistline and eliminates grey hairs. This is the real youth dew.
Have a great Friday, everyone!
I'm appalled at how rarely I see one of my beloved Poisons
in this thread. What is wrong with you women?!
Such a shame!
Happy Birthday, ECaruthers!!!! Welcome Petra Ichor!!!!

Happy Birthday to ECaruthers! Happy weekend to everyone else.
Was wearing Guerlain AA Winter Delice today.
Hey all! Happy birthday to rtamara and ECaruthers! Glad to see RHM is feeling better!
It's a beautiful day out there, and I've spent the morning reading email and Basenotes, so I must get up and at 'em. I'm going to be doing a lot of yard work out there in the sunny cold (it's about 60º, and yes, that's cold! ) so I wanted something bright and floral. I was looking for my Armani Prive Eclat de Jasmin, but happened across J'Adore first. I haven't worn this in *ages* and it's such a pretty little thing.
Chyphres tomorrow! Yay! In the meantime, happy Friday!
Eddie: Sweetie, what are you drinking?
Patsy: Oh, this? Chanel No. 5.

My swap list: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/269...Small-Swaplist!!
So far today I've put on 28 La Pausa, MKK and Nahema.
I just couldn't decide.
Roberto, I'm sitting next to you on the Basenotes bus today. Everyone else can budge up so I can have a good whiff of that lumberjack goodness that makes me go 'whoo!!!!' And Mikey Perez, you can sit on my other side, because I lurve the Habit Rouge edp bigtime. So that's me in my happy place. (Easily pleased, yes, I know. But hmm, nowadays the things that please me are in suuuuch good taste, darling.)
Happy birthday RTamara and ECaruthers - I hope you get to party all weekend and smell DIVINE for days and days.
My SOTD: I found my sample of Parfums d'Empire Ambre Russe (I'm pretty sure I have Taolady to thank for this) and it's lovely. I finally got the vodka and champagne topnotes today; most unusual and interesting. But it's dominated for me by the tobacco and gets very close to Amber Narguile (which I used to adore but which went Nazgul on me last year, but, I haven't tried it this winter so maybe I should). However it dries down into a very nice base which isn't oversweet, thankfully.
The power of the tobacco in this makes me debate if I'd buy a full bottle. But I might buy a bottle of Cuir Ottoman, which I wore yesterday. So this goes onto the decant list. Maybe that's where CO should be too. I like the motto 'sample, decant, FB' these days. I'm so fickle. And with all these scents, how do I have time to wear them all?
Chypres tomorrow. What to wear, what to wear? Do I get to use my puns? "I feel so chypre..." etc etc.

Today I am in Chanel no 19 all the way, baby!!!!
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." Well I started the day in Dior Diorissimo, but wanted something warmer.
Now I am trying out my newjustarrivedonlymomentsago FRACAS by Robert Piguet. I thought that this would be a new never been smelled before scent for me, but I instantly recognized it...guess I didn't know that this was Fracas. Go figure!
