Thread: SotD Thursday 11 March |
Stayed sick in bed (and bathroom) for almost two days, do not like anything I have got.
I like:
1) Ruggles' smiling -- Mr.Clooney rests!;
2) Joe's old lady;
3) Green paisley floral with daffodils from Antaeusintheair's post;
4) the way Manadarine Tout Simplement smells.
Tomorrow is another -- and I hope, better -- day.

Poor Twolf ... hope you will be feeling better soon.
Feeling melancholy tonight, so I'm going with that feeling and wearing L'Heure Bleue.
I've trademarked the color bleu
Hello again!
Inspired by another thread, I'm in the gorgeous, singular, long-discontinued Deneuve, by Catherine Deneuve.
Take care of yourself Twolf - I hope you feel better soon!
Antaeusintheair - I'm so glad you love Safari. It's a very special fragrance, and you wear it well!
Tonight, testing Scents of Time Maya. So far, the top notes hit me with a dark chocolate and jasmine. No copal incense, with which I am very familiar, not in the top. The heart notes are showing up already, I get the vanilla... jasmine...still dark chocolate. Perhaps the copal is the "dark" to the chocolate, as it is definitely not presenting its resinous pungence/sweetness. We will see how the base develops. The top/heart notes are intoxicating though.
Sillage is moderate and definitely night-blooming jasmine with traces of the chocolate, at least in the heart.
Closer to the skin the vanilla and jasmine are fighting for domination of the chocolate. I think the heart notes are just now emerging, to be honest.
More on this scent as it develops.
Okay... I think we're there. I've been wracking my brain trying to remember what this smells like... and of course it's mole
Into the heart notes now and it smells almost fruity...sweeter than the top notes, nearly candy-like. (actually somewhat cloying and unpleasant, one element of the heart on my skin smells like that nose-hair-singeing restroom deodorizer... sharply fruit-candylike.) ... Hoping this passes. Further from the skin it is more pleasant fruity/jasmine ... and hints of the chocolate.
(still more later.)
Still a little to sweet candy for me, the less desirable notes have quelled somewhat. In the sillage which is still moderate I am getting the chocolate and jasmine and really do smell copal now. Vanilla is in the background but that "vanilla extract sweetness" may be the reason for the near-cloying heart.
Close to the skin this is overpowering, but it is pleasant just wafting up.
Drydown... I don't think we're there yet.
Ah... I've been trying to figure out what the drydown, which seems to be settling in, reminds me of. It's Mole! To be more specific, Mole Poblano. As I know it, anyway.
Not bad, Not sure I would like this scent all day.

Chanel No. 22. The parfum is gorgeous.
We're home and Mom is with us, recovering. Things are looking up. More when I get the chance!
Okay, I'm back and Mom is watching Pride and Prejudice.
Mom is finally sleeping throughout the night and is eating much better. She seems to have accepted the need to uproot her whole life this way and is moving ahead with us. Today I took her to buy a bunch of things she will need in her new apartment, which she is supposed to go into next week sometime. Sometime over the weekend we will go buy furniture for her. For now, she is occupying my daughter's room, and my daughter is sleeping on the Aerobed in the basement. It's okay for the short term but unsustainable for the long term.
Next week I'm having her evaluated for her short term memory problems; perhaps there will be something that can be done to help her in this. I've already found a new doctor for her.
Mom is loving being with us-- I hope she will not be too lonely at the apartment.
We decided to rent her house rather than sell it, for now anyway. And I've told her that if she regains her strength, we will take her back to visit her friends next summer. She brightened at this and I hope she will make the effort to get better.

One other thing that was pretty cool this past week:
Some of you may recall that I had intended to go alone to FL this time, but that my husband uncharacteristically insisted on accompanying me. Well! It's a good thing he did, because after a lengthy delay at the departure gate, we were told that all flights into and out of Atlanta were cancelled due to a small amount of snow (which they can't handle, apparently). If we wanted to reach Mom that night-- and I absolutely didn't want her spending another night alone after Dad died-- we had no option but to fly direct to Orlando and then drive 7 hours to get to my mother's town. We had to take turns sleeping and driving and finally got in at 5 a.m. No way could I have made it alone. And thank goodness for GPS!
Needless to say, I had a smugly self-satisfied husband during that trip! Yeah, he's a smart guy.
Oh my, Twolf-- I hope you get better soon!

Guerlain Vetiver
30 Roses, it sounds like things are moving steadily in a good direction...hugs and warm wishes for things to continue on this vector!
I'm bumming over the BMM games--I think my picks are going to lose, booo
I am consoling myself with Guerlain L'Heure Bleue extrait.
L'Interdit
Hugs to soir, Twolf and all of those under the weather. 30 Roses, thanks for the report. Asha, I hope it is not too late, I am running out of here to vote for Jicky.
Today I wore Dior Homme again. I very seldom wear the same fragrance two or more days in a row, but it made me feel so happy yesterday, that I wanted to repeat the experience, and it worked.
