Default The scent of Dove soap

What scent would you say is the closest to the scent of the traditional Dove white soap? I really love the smell and think a perfume version of it would make a great casual scent.

I believe I smell iris, lily, and even a hint of vetiver in Dove. There's something there to keep it from being a sweet iris/lily. It smells nicely rounded and yet not creamy, but more on the dry side of the spectrum (which is why I suspect some vetiver note - a very clean, stripped of all dirt vetiver).

Here are some scents that to my nose have some similarity to Dove:

Reflection Man - this is sweeter and far richer smelling than Dove. More obviously floral. Soapy in its own way but more formal, assertive and attention grabbing than Dove. While I wear it in a casual manner from time to time, I am doing so against the nature of the scent.

Infusion d'Homme - this is soapier smelling, imo. Has a number of similarities with the iris and vetiver and such, but I just don't like it. It smells too inhuman, in some regard. I just can't connect to it.

Iris Bleu Gris - more irisy and floral and earthy than Dove. Have to resniff this though as it has been awhile.

Six Scents "Wicken 3000" - has a similar white smell but this is wetter in texture and also airier/thinner. Not close enough to be a suitable replacement, imo.

Well, that's what I've smelled that is somewhat close. They all seem to feature iris or lily as prominent notes.

I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on the subject.

edit: I found a thread on Perfume of Life where some women were musing that C&E's Nantucket Briar smells quite close to Dove. Has anyone here smelled this? Do you agree?

Clean Lather is the smell of Dove Soap in an EDP form, as far as I can tell. I can tell literally no difference - but then again, I am not intimately familiar with the smell of Dove beyond a passing whiff.

Have you ever smelled Pleasures by Estée Lauder? It has a Dove vibe, big time. I think what you smell in Dove is 100% synthetic musk with some rose thrown in.

I know this won't be what you're looking for, but it might interest you nontheless: I found that Labdanum 18 smells like dove soap (with a strong resemblance to Shalimar) over the same leathery musk of Musc Ravageur.

I agree that you should try Puro Lino. I love original Dove, and while I don't think Puro Lino is Dove in fragrance form, it's probably the soapiest scent I've smelled aside from Gendarme.

There is a newer variation of Dove soap, making my post a bit off-topic, I forgot the name, but the soap bar is yellowish and also has scrub particles in it, which I perceive as a cross-over between a vanillic-floral male frag, like Fahrenheit 32 and a rose-based male frag, like Ungaro III.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. A kindly basenoter offered to send me a Dove fragrance oil which I'm going to try. If that doesn't hit the mark, I'll sample more of these suggestions. The only thing is - I was hoping not to spend too much on a fragrance that would be the epitome of casual and low key

We should have a separate thread for fragrances similar to the reformulated Dove soap. This thread is related to the scent of vintage Dove soap.

I've been using Dove "original clean" body wash for a long time now ( I also use the underarm deodorant ) and can honestly say no frags I've ever tried even come close. If they made an edt fragrance of Dove, it would shoot straight to the top of my rotation. Great stuff.

Luca Turin made a strong case for a fine fragrance version of Dove in The Guide, I believe it's within the Estée Lauder Pleasures review.

A bit OT but..aside from the pleasant smell it provides, a bar of (Dove) soap under the sheets at the bottom of the bed is said to cure Restless Leg Syndrome in many cases.

My great-grandmother used Dove soap. It holds special nostalgia for me. She also loved to eat peppermint sticks. She smelled of peppermint, orange pekoe and Dove soap. I use it my self from time to time, but I've been on an Ivory soap kick lately, as it doesn't interfere with my frag. The best way to smell like Dove, is to shower with it and not rinse it all off.

Nice. My Gran was a Dove aficionado as well. I think though it's really more of a winter frag than a summer frag... as it doesn't stand up to the sort of hard work and inevitable sweating that my Gran did. (taking the mickey a bit here)

The only thing that would make it 100 percent Gran would be if there were a note of blackberries in simple syrup and possibly a touch of vanilla ice cream... and faint but recognizable Apple Cider vinegar as it smells on iron-rich well-water bathed sunburned skin.

Hmm. I'm kind of wondering, if the palliative/curative effect is real, if it isn't the scent and not the soap. Who knows what neural pathways scent uses to make us feel a certain way? Would be interesting to hear some opinions. (having some nerve problems myself, a vested interest.)
