Ack! Jergen's that smells like my grandmother. Sorry my Frgrant Divas you're going to have to do better than that. That's like me saying I want to walk around in Barbasol all day.

For this dreary day after the gloriously sunny weekend I am craving some tuberose and wanted something new.

Histoire de Parfums Tuberose Trilogy #3 Animale

Gerald Ghislain’s line of perfumes Histoire de Parfums endeavor to create a library of fragrance. Late in 2009 he released a Tuberose Trilogy. Three fragrances meant to explore the different qualities a core tuberose note could impart to a fragrance. The one that drew my eye first was #3 Animale. What got me interested was the inclusion of tobacco and immortelle in the note list. I thought these two notes could be very good partners for tuberose.

Tuberose is one of the more heady floral notes out there and in classics like Frederic Malle Carnal Flower or Robert Piguet Fracas those fragrances use the intensity of tuberose to effect. M. Ghislain can’t quite tame the beast that is tuberose but in Animale he chooses to take a couple of strong notes and allow them to stand next to the tuberose, if not as equals, at least they are not overwhelmed.

The beginning of Animale is a mix of plum and neroli in conjunction with the tuberose. This is the most pedestrian phase of Animale as early on it feels like a hundred similar fruity florals out there. That changes as an herbal accord of rosemary and sage cuts across the fruit and adds a needed earthiness. This is where the tobacco accord makes its appearance and this is the sweet dried tobacco, concentrated and narcotic in intensity. The interaction between the sweet tuberose and the leafy sweetness of the tobacco is quite beautiful. What is even better is that beauty gets trumped in the base as immortelle slowly makes its way into the mix. The maple syrup accord of immortelle adds a different kind of sweet to the mélange. I can see where many would be wondering if they need to keep their insulin handy with all of this sweetness going on. What I found is that M. Ghislain manages to keep a short leash on these sweet notes and they definitely play well together. The latter stages of Animale, as the sweet floral of the tuberose, the sweet leafy aspect of tobacco and the maple syrup of immortelle intertwine amongst each other create a very pleasant experience.

Animale has above average longevity and above average sillage.

If you are a fan of tuberose you should try all three entries in the Tuberose Trilogy but if you really only want to try one go straight to #3, Animale. That’s the fragrance that is #1 in the Tuberose Trilogy for me.

    Have a Mighty Monday everyone.

    Les Nuits D'Hadrien EDP

I didn't like this at first but it grew on me.
Now I appreciate its herbal quirkiness. I'm not sure if there is cypress
in this as in Eau D'Hadrien, but there appears to be juniper
so I've included it in the notes, instead.
Oddly, it wasn't listed but I'm sure it's there.
As with Eau D'Hadrien, EDP is the only way to go!

Notes: Green Mandarin, tangerine, bergamot, Sicilian lemon,
ylang-ylang, juniper, cumin, sandalwood, white musk, amber, vanilla

*Bloomy*, my experience is exactly the same! A good memory. My mom developed an allergy to Jergens later in life and had to switch. She thought it was the lanolin.

I am giving Grossmith Shem-el-Nessim a full wearing today. So far, I'm mesmerized.

SMM, no leather, civet, fur, or castoreum in HdP Tuberose Animale? Additions of tabac and immortelle notes sound wonderful paired with tuberose, but where's the beef (animal)? Is it only metaphorically beastly?

    Good morning!
I'm wearing new purchase Malle Une Rose on my right hand -- and Lutens Sa Majesté la Rose on my left hand, and trying to understand the differences. (I'm a newbie) Une Rose has much better longevity on me (applied about an hour ago). I'm preferring the Malle -- I wish I had the words or nose to describe the element I like so much in it... I keep thinking "waxy" but that's not ... The Lutens a bit more woodsy in dry down.

I'm also craving Jergens after reading the preceding posts...

I always liked the smell of Jergens, too, for the record. Going scentless for now, as I woke early and am actually thinking about going back for a few more hours of sleep. Take care, all.

You all are making me laugh with your Jergens lotion memories. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I've added a little Molinard for Aedes Une Histoire De Chypre from KayBAT's chypre hunt thread. I found that sample before I could find the Serge Luten Louvre.

It is definitely the bitter almond note I'm liking in the Jergens. KORRES had a Bitter Almond body wash (which I have) and I like that too.

I'm dreaming about a 50 ml bottle of Chamande with the gold case around it. It's only $128 dolllars plus tax and they won't charge me for delivery!! Sigh!!!
Instead , I'm wearing MPG Ambre Precieux which is lovely for this nippy windy day.
I don't have to go back to bed like Leesee because I'm already in bed. Maybe, I'll take a bath and use one of my samples.

I'm wearing Cuir de Lancome today for a trip to the Rheumatologist office. I think I will be changing medications soon

Sign me up for Team Jergens! I love the scent and like to use it at bedtime. I know a lot of you use perfumes before bed, but that's the time that I like a scented lotion or body cream instead.

It is such a sunny day today! It's melting the last of our weekend snow ... Dare I hope that will be the last of the cold weather? nah! It's Kansas after all! For now, I'm enjoying the sunshine ...

    SotD Sycomore

(all day... unless of course I change my mind!)

    See below...

Oh... and my Jergens memories are very strong. My mother has very dry skin and her heels cracked pretty badly when her feet swelled when and after she was pregnant with my siblings... I loved to rub the lotion into her feet and ankles after she got out of the bath and did that nearly every evening.

Of course I think she probably loved it just as much! (oh, to have someone to rub lotion into my feet and ankles right now.) Ahh.

And this afternoon and evening I'm wearing E. Coudray Esperys (that the postman brought me just a little while ago) ... acquired from our own lovely Hillaire, and it's YUMMY!

No Jergens lotion for me, thank you! At least not the original cherry-almondy version. It is one of the things one has to grow up with, like popcorn, peanut butter, no? And I have probably told you about a can of caviar that my European mama sent to us and I brought to work -- most of my co-workers refused to try it, only two tried -- and one of them said that it had an intensified taste of tuna fish. Sorry about OT.

I don't have a memory of Jergens. When I think back to my childhood, I get a recollected nose-full of Oscar de la Renta.

Gorgeous day here! I'd swear Joe-Joe was making popcorn in my belly this morning (pop! pop-pop!), but he's settled down now and I'm going to go do some sprinkler system maintenance in a sample of Guerlain L'Instant Magic.

Hello dear BNers! Hope you are all doing well...

SOTD is C&S Dark Rose. I opened my drawer of FBs this morning and thought - you know, it's been months since I wore this beauty. I think it's quite unusual, although now I hear it's very similar (and some say inferior?) to a Montale. In the meantime, though, I am happy with it. I think it's unlike anything else I own, and it blooms beautifully in this weather (damp, but thankfully not too hot yet).

Decided to put on some L'Heure Bleue. I rarely wear it because while I find it enchanting, I also find it off-putting in a way that I cannot easily define. But today it just seems right. Maybe it's all that talk of Jergens!!! Take care, all.
