Thread: SotD Wednesday 24 March
Polo tonight. Classic
"Are you a god?"
"Are you a wizard?"
"Are you a man?"
"Then what are you?"
"I am awake.."
Thank you all for your birthday wishes, flowers, and beautiful and highly appropriate birthday cakes!
I'm having a great day today, feeling better and finally snapping out of the work-induced funk that's been clouding my mood since last Wed. All your bday wishes have helped tremendously, because I'm just loving the heck out of my day today. Right now I'm trying to track down some red velvet cake in this one-horse town. It's looking like I'll have to make it, myself (which would be tastier, anyway!).
Wearing my favorite!

Happy Birthday, Sunnyfunny!
Wore Rosine's Rose Praline.
My bottle of Carven Ma Griffe edp (current version I believe) arrived today and so it is my scent of the evening.
BN has a pyramid for I assume the 1946 original:
Top Notes--Aldehydes, Clary sage, Galbanum, Bergamot.
Middle Notes--Gardenia, Jasmin, Ylang-ylang, Rose.
Base Notes--Cinnamon, Tonka Bean, Vetiver.
Here's what Carven says about mine:
Top--Aldehydes, Green Gardenia
Heart--Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Rose
Base--Vetiver, Styrax, Tonka Beans, Musk
I must say I get no galbanum which is a bit of a letdown, but it is a marvelous scent so far. Bright and juicy aldehydes unlike both Chanel and Piguet aldehydes with which I am most familiar. Not cold and aloof, but warm and sweet and definitely green. The notes betray a similarity to RL Safari edp (another recent acquisition in my hunt for springtime green florals) and there is a resemblance, but only slight. Safari is much drier, both less sweet and less juicy and has a parched powderiness that Ma Griffe does not have. The styrax (benzoin) and tonka give a hint of vanilla-ness without ever screaming vanilla and a bit of resinous spice. No real cinnamon or cassia yet, but I'm still sniffing for it and perhaps it will emerge (or it was an aspect of the older formulations left out of this one). Aldehydes and green, earthy (i.e., dirty but not indolic) jasmine predominate so far. I'm looking forward to more vetiver (that earthiness no doubt) as the base emerges and the aldehydes burn off. A real bargin too!
"Ma Griffe" is both "my signature" and "my clutches/talons/claws/grasp" or both as this older ad demonstrates with a woman leaving her mark on her man.
I offer you perfume,
More for its pleasure than for yours;
You perfume perfume.

Wondering how your Ma Griffe experience compares with my comments about the scent... I compared vintage and new. (link on the sig) ... would be interesting to compare notes... so to speak.
And odd that I get cinnamon in the reformulation. But my nose reads darker = cinnamon. So much for scent pyramids!

Molinard Homme II layered/Molinard Vanille.
OK, Swiss Army, we want the full report -- how it went in general, what brands you smelled, what you ate, what smelled good on you all, what the salespeople were saying about your invasion, if they were generous with samples, what jokes made you laugh, etc. Please, the details!
About birthdays and perfume preferences: we have a handful of Geminis here and we -- Ms.Tao, Quarry, RHM, Asha, tdem61, Alicka, Moondeva and many more -- love our smellies and enjoy talking/writing about them. They (fragrances) do not have to be exactly the same, but they have to bear the qualities reflecting our individual approaches to life and how we tackle it. We also once came to the conclusion that one has to see the position of AC and Venus in your natal chart to be able to say what another person might enjoy.
In AdP Mirto di Panarea.
I'm wearing Royal Bain de Caron today.

I wore one of the yummiest perfumes to my nose, Ambre Narguile.
Sampling Sinfonia di Note's Jardin d'Orient, and enjoying it. However, it reminds me quite strongly of Montale's Oriental Flowers, which I already own, so I suppose I don't need a full bottle.
Sonoma Scent Studio Velvet Rose for bed...sweet dreams!
