So buy something that screams '80s without apology. And make it a genuine powerhouse; no pretenders allowed. Some possibilities:

    • Quorum -- Nothing I know smells close. It's certainly not like any current releases. I went through my 20s with it and still like it, but a younger crowd will recognize it as "vintage," if not dated. I think of it as pleasant but formal, though.

    • Bijan -- Widely despised here. I love it. Worn confidently and lightly, not lethally, it will adapt to your attitude: edgy, mysterious, in-your-face, strong and silent. Make it work and wear it proudly.

    • Antaeus -- With a few minutes to quiet down after application, this becomes a truly beautiful scent. Romantic in any sense of the word. If you buy it and don't like it, store it carefully for a few years. Some day you will appreciate this one.

    • Obsession -- What could be more nostalgic than smelling likes Mom's kitchen while she baked cookies?

    My two cents.

    In no particular order:
    • Quorum
    • Polo (Ok, 1978 but this was THE smell of the 80's)
    • Drakkar Noir
    • Lagerfeld Classic (Again, 1978 but this scent makes me think of '84, when I wore it)
    • Kouros
    • Santos Concentree

This list reminds me of my late teens

Three of these I currently wear and love. There's only two that I wouldn't wear myself today...

    Yep.

You want something that screams out "The f&*ckin' 80s!!!"? Get Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui, any version.

Van Cleef & Arpels (even the latest rendition) is still so powerful that I approach it with trepidation. Good but dangerous. Moss my mate! Moss, leather and flowers.

What he said! I remember making a thread about that here. This stuff is potent beyond your imagination. You won't even know you're radiating a powerful, yet desirable smell. After I thought it's long gone, people commented on how 'nice' I smelt.

A word of caution though: NEVER (yes, all caps) over-apply Quorum.

    Kouros is king too!

Yep, Quorum is one of those superpowerful beasts that should never be re-applied either during any 24 hour period.

Quorum is the King of 80s muscle frags.

Quorum. Not outdated, a classic. Just screams " I am man, hear me roar ", or something like that.

    Here we go again...
Kouros - Yves Saint Laurent - I have this in my wardrobe, use it almost every day...
Polo - Ralph Lauren - Planning on buying it
Obsession - Calvin Klein - Althrough Eternity is better, this has a "classic" feel to it, "old school", great oriental
Drakkar Noir - Guy Laroche - Never smelled it, but I know it smells good and it is also very strong too.
JOOP! Homme - JOOP! - I have this in my wardrobe, I can't finish the 125 ml bottle !
Azzaro Pour Homme - Azzaro - I have this in my wardrobe, and it is quite strong, if you use 5 sprays
Green Irish Tweed - Creed - It's not a powerhouse, but is smells very good, and it's from the 80's !
Chanel Antaeus - Chanel - Kouros alternative, softer version, but the vintage stuff was just as strong as Kouros
    etc etc etc
For details, don't ask me, read the reviews

Maybe try Fendi Uomo. It's an 80's powerhouse for sure. Its scent is pretty outdated, and it's definitely designer.

Don't be deterred by the fact that its page here says it's discontinued. It's really not, it's either been reformulated or just had the bottle changed, but it's pretty readily available.

Reccomend CK's Obsession for men (warm and inviting, spicy, sweet smelling) and Oscar de la Renta's Pour Lui (darker, spicy, strong, very masculine). Both are classified as '80s powerhouses (original '80s powerhouses, not newer frangances trying to emulate the originals). The two are actually good to own simultaneously because they're very opposite. One's good for when you're not in the mood for the other. I see Pour Lui as an anytime fragrance and Obsession for occasions, though Pour Lui could be used for formal occasions too.

I agree, Gentleman's great, but you have to really love the smell of patchouli. As people have said in other posts, it could have easily been called "Givenchy Patchouli". Still though, try this one, I think it's great!

One Man Show... Even though it's newer than Brut, it makes Brut seem like it came out this morning. That's how "outdated" it is. And I'm a reliable source because I'm 19 and I'm more or less in touch with the "trendy" stuff.

You might want to try Sung Homme. It came out in 1988. Is dirt cheap, loud as hell, lasts forever, and smells remarkably good. Think Irish Spring soap and wood.
