If I were going to make my own fragrance, I would probably work on it for years. And then, when it was similar to Armani Eau Pour Homme, I would realize it was a wasted effort on my part.
Thread: Your ideal fragrance |
Here is something to think about. If you had the creative freedom to make your own cologne what notes would it have?
My ideal:
Top:Mandarin
Middle: Leather notes
Base: Tobacco and wood notes
This frag would be very mature and strong but that mandarin would blend in it to tone it down and give it a sweet , fresh and pleasant smell at the same time that you could use all year round.

Great post. Mine would be:
Top: Jasmine
Middle: Leather
Base: Amber and Musk
Top: Cardamom, Chocolate, Rum, a little Pepper
Middle: Nutmeg, Vanilla, Palm Wood, Cinnamon, Praline,
Base: Cedar, Bamboo, Black Leather, Gasoline (or Petroleum)
or better yet.. Fahrenheit + Ambergris

My perfect fragrance would be a perfect eau de cologne with natural ingredients and a little longevity. It would have bergamot, neroli, lime, orange blossom, musk, and rosemary.
I like spices and rose mixed with patchouli and tobacco with maybe an incense/cedar resiny flavour in there.
Or... I'd like the darkness of Black Orchid with a rich dark rose underpinned by the rich woods of Cartier Santos with the sweet seductive luxury of fine sandalwood oils in there. All combined with an exotic spicy edge of cardomum with a hint (and I do mean a hint) of cumin.
In a world where people smell bad, it is the personal responsibility of every Basenoter to improve the world one SotD at a time...
Based on the notes I like the most, something including the best combination of the following or just a group of them (since basenotes are prominent, as per the notes mentioned): vervaine, patchouly, musk, tobacco, cinnamon, juniper, vetiver, sandalwood, amber, benzoine/vanilla, oakmoss, cedar and jasmine.
Based on fragrance - styles, smething very traditional in spirit, powdery yet masculine, with good longevity (6 to 8 hours), very complex but with limited sillage.
Interesting Thread
I would go with:
Top Notes: Vanilla, Lavender
Middle Notes: Bergamot, Vetiver
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Ambergris
a woody vanila fragrance... I would call it "Eau de Bois du Adesor"![]()
Anything chypre, with lots of citrus, Mediterranean herbs and a stronger, woody-musky-ambery drydown
mine
Top Notes: Bergamot, mandarin, basil, majoram & coriander
Middle Notes: Artemisia, petitgrain, patchouli, cinamon, vetiver & oakmoss
Base Notes: Labdanum, leather, tobacco, castoreum, amber & cedar
