    on first sniff?

    1. Roger & Gallet Extra Vieille
How can something nearly as cheap as 4711 be this insanely good?

    2. Windsor
much richer than the "orange/lime/juniper(gin)/pine/sharp-rose" that i was expecting,
and worlds better than I expected, I couldn't stop smelling my wrist for the first few weeks.

    3. Prelude to Love by Kilian
I forget what particular post or note list made me want to test this one,
as I initially wrote off the entire Kilian line prior to testing them just from the cost and comments of how sweet they were. the whole line dissapointed except P2L, it absolutely floored me at first sniff, waay better than expected.

    4. L'Occitane Eav Des Bavx
I loved the topnotes when i first tested it, a very dry spiced incense/woods accord with just the right amount of sweetness below it. then it completely surprised me later in the day when it was way too fkn sweet, fortuneately they either took some of the sweetness down or i just lucked out on the bottle I own now.

    5. Bogart pour homme
given how cheap this was, and that for months i assumed it was some sort of gimmick frag with a photo of humphrey bogart on the box, i had long ignored the posters who recommended it, unti lit got cold this winter, and I was searching for the perfect pipe tobacco to balance Tom Ford TV which was too sweet. Dmitrios posted that this is the cherry pipe tobacco scent, and I remember liking those pouches of cherry tobacco and their maraschino aroma. I first applied this, and was put off by it's rather unimpressive topnotes....then an hour later it was the best contemporary powerhouse with just the right hint of joopness. very nice surprise for a steal of a price.

    1. Obsession Night for Men CK- yes, sweet and gourmand, but in what a bewildering and quirky way

    2. BDP by Creed- no, I am not going to praise this, yet I just had the luck of finding something smelling like a Mediterranean landscape

    3. Le Dix by Balenciaga- I hardly ever smelled a female chypre that elegant

    4. Dior Homme- can a fragrance be that powdery and that masculine at the same time and can suede notes smell anything but "Alpha male", conservative leather frags?

    5. Guerlain Mouchoir de Monsieur- olfactory sensations so lush, so addictive and so flawless, as to haunt me for the next few afterlives

    1) Jungle L'Elephant de Kenzo
OMG! This is soooo good, vanilla creme de la creme.

    2) Dior Homme Intense
I thought it was impossible to do better than Dior Homme - Dior could!

    3) Habit Rouge de Guerlain
Got it yesterday, nothing like I'd thought it would be. Still very modern, very sweet.

    4) Hypnotic Poison Elixir de Christian Dior
Like DHI, I never thought they could beat the original, but a touch of anis did the job.

    5) Baldessarini by Hugo Boss
I never liked many of Boss' frags, but this one is divine. Sold without Boss' name today I believe?

    1. Pure malt: After all the praise, I just do not like the smell of whiskey barrel.
    2. +1 On Bogart. I really like this stuff, and I also agree that at this point I enjoy this more than TV.
    3. CW, Git: This genre just makes me gag.
    4. Polo (green): I went years and years without knowing what this smells like. Wow, great stuff.
    5. +1 on Roger & Gallet Extra Vieille; great smelling frag at a very nice price.

    1. Tubereuse Criminelle: what an exellent idea to wrap tuberose in a cloud of petrol fumes and Vicks vapours! It sounds insane but probably the most artistic fragrance I have ever tried.
    2. Del Rae Amoureuse: tuberose again but here put in a blender with bitter green grass.
    3. Sarassins: the idea of jasmine, not the flower. A platonic fragrance.
    4. Lalique ph and Equus: amazing quality masculine fragrances almost completely overlooked.
    5. Montale Sandflowers: amazing artistic creativity. All you guys who think Secretions Magnifiques is a nice idea but cannot actually wear it, you should give Sandflowers a try.

Vintage Vol de Nuit extrait: Probably the most moving perfume experience I've ever had.
Vintage Mitsouko: Polar opposite to the modern formula.
CdG Stephen Miller Millinery: Just made me go "WOOOW"!
Mona di Orio Nuit Noire: Filthy and refined at the same time
Agonist The Infidels: Something I would never have expected. Made the hairs on my arms prickle.

I just sprayed myself a wee bit again,
and it is a strange scent indeed.
    Both very old-fashioned and über
    modern at the same time.
    Truely a timeless classic.

Caron - Yatagan - I had never smelled anything like this before (and since)

YSL - Kouros - Donkey urine with flowers...i was really offended! (now i love it tho)

Creed - Orange Spice - Hey...Kouros isn't that unique at all!

Geoffrey Beene - Grey Flannel - This had something very familiar...brought back forgotten memories... very odd since i have never smelled it before.

NOSTALGIA by Santa Maria Novella --- a moment at the pitstop & then on with the race!

SIGNATURE POUR HOMME by ST Dupont --- Such a riveting scent from ST who_??

GREY FLANNEL by Geoffrey Beene ---- niche quality at drugstore prices.

SPIRITUEUSE DOUBLE VANILLE by Guerlain ---- Smells delicious! I'll have a glass of it, please. Shaken.

JOUR ENSOLEILLE by Sonoma Scent Studio ---- Laugh at first sniff. A truly joyous scent.
