    Question Pure Parfum application.

Since pure parfum normally comes in splash bottles and since oils from the fingers can contaminate the juice I have used a nitrile exam glove to apply. Any other application methods out there that you would recommend?

tott; Yes, those small sample decants would work just fine. Good idea. I hate to see the level of juice go down but, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

You can dab with the stopper and wipe it afterwards with cleaning alcohol let dry and then put the stopper back in the bottle.

I was talking to James from Les Senteurs once about this and my fear of getting oil etc into the bottle. He thought that was slightly OCD worrying about it. He told me just wash your hands well and dry them they use them to apply parfum.

I don't worry about it, either. I just use the tip of my finger to apply the perfume.

I hate pure parfum ... and I hate dabbing.

I have N░5; Amarige; and Miss Dior ChÚrie as pure parfum to dab.

    - I worry the oxygen will destroy the juice.
    - I don't get enough on me I think.
    - And it's not stronger than regulat EdP ...

... or maybe that's just because I don't get as much on me, as I do when spraying EdP ...
I much rather buy regular EdP!!!

Duckey, sweetie... That's why you decant and spray.

Pure perfume is generally richer and denser, and spraying brings it to life in a different way than dabbing. I love it.

Chanel's parfums are available in traditional splash bottles. No 5, 19, Coco, Coco Mademoiselle and Allure are also available as purse sprays.

I like dabbing but I decant into small tester bottles to dab from - plus they have screw on lids ,so I don't worry about spillage if I take it with me in my bag. I also like spraying pure parfum but you do use a lot- I find the Guerlains do very well sprayed. Sometimes I spray once and dab that amount around my neck and other wrist .
I am definitely alittle OCD when it comes to parfum application.

I agree with Roses here. Use a rollerball decanter for more control with a perfume.

I use these cheap ones from Sephora. The feedback states a lot of sniveling on leaking, but this is because the lip of the glass inner bottle was not snug against the gasket of the cap, or it was overtightened. How complex can this really be? I carry a vial of Habit Rouge EDT in one of these and have never had leaks.

Primrose, I use these from Pilotvials:
    " 1/8 ounce vial with plastic roll-on applicator" http://www.pilotvials.com/Roll-on_vials.html

I haven't had any problems with leakage from these vials. They're inexpensive, but functional in appearance.

I agree with Tott - parfums smell so much better when sprayed. My Carons are in spray bottles, only my Nahema and Pour une Femme is dabbed, and only when I first step out of the shower, never during the day when my hands may have the slightest oil build up!

I put the bottle against my body. Am I the only one who does this? It's my bottle so I don't care about a few skin cells. The usual method is to hold it tight against my wrist & rub back & forth. Then I rub the wrists together & either reapply & rub the wrist against my neck or draw the bottle down from the jawline to the collarbone.

I guess I'm the only one who uses sterile plastic pipettes to take out a drop? Either that or I decant a bit in a 2 ml mini-atomizer.

  24. #24

    Default Re: Pure Parfum application.

I've used (for sample vials that were to be shared) a sterile cotton swab application, which seems to work just fine as one "loading" of the cotton swab gets the perfume wherever I want it, and is enough. (and I sometimes pull off the cotton end and tuck the cotton into a breast pocket so that none of the precious juice is "wasted"...) I use that method with mini dab/splash bottles, but anything much larger that comes in a dab/splash I will decant into either 2.5 or 8 ml atomizers that I label and stick in a silk bag in my purse.

A word of caution on bottles with stoppers. I consulted kumquat on this, and felt like a total addlepate when I used facial tissue/Kleenex to wipe the lip of the bottle. Result: tissue particles in the bottle, and a horrified Basenoter. (blush) And I ruined a bottle of Chanel Cuir de Russie... (blush) Use FABRIC to wipe the bottle lip, needless to say.

ITA that putting a pure perfume in an atomizer will give it some teeth. It seems to result in bigger sillage. I do this with my JPG Classique parfum--it's perfect that way!

Accessories for Fragrances has rollerball type bottle in as small as 1 ml, 1.2 ml, 4 ml, 5 ml and larger; the ones on page 1 have plastic rollerballs; the ones on p. 2 have stainless steel rollerballs.

    http://store01.prostores.com/servlet.../25/Categories

Mind you, I think the tiniest ones look a little funny with those huge caps on the tiny bottles! But this might be a way to share a small sample of a pricey parfum with a friend. Or to decant only a small amount of parfum at a time into a bottle with minimal headspace for air (since exposure to air is not good for the perfume.)

Or even a way to carry around one's favorite scent of the day for reapplication, in a glass bottle that weighs little due to being so small.

I think the word "idiot" is just too tame for how I felt at the time... LOL!

The CdR is not really ruined, but you can still see the "faintest" trace of residue at the bottom of the bottle, which still has about 8 mls in it..

That actually brings up something I've been wondering about. Does anyone know of a place online that sells nice little atomizers? I mean, really nice? Enameled, engraved, otherwise decorated? Google Scholar hasn't been able to help me on this one. It doesn't matter so much, but a nice bottle, for me, is also part of the enjoyment...

I thought I was the only one! I resort to this when I don't have an atomizer dedicated to the fragrance.

I do the same thing as Kumquat, I put the open bottle against my wrist, crook of elbow and dÚcolletÚe, tilt the parfum onto my skin and afterward touch my wrists and arms together to disperse the scent. If the bottle has a nice enough stopper, such as some of my Caron, Carven and Patou scents I just use the stopper to apply.
I give not a thought to contamination of scents. they all smell just as lovely as when I first opened them. I do only apply extrait after showering, on clean skin, so that must make a difference...I guess? Too many other things in life to worry about, at least for the time being.

If the residue is all at the bottom of the bottle, and it bothers you to look at it, maybe you could "vacuum" it up with a pipette? Rather like a bottom-feeding fish sucks up food from the ocean floor. Then transfer that residue-filled liquid bit to another bottle and use it first.

I've also heard of folks straining perfume through a coffee filter to get rid of flotsam. Since you have a relatively small amount left, though, it may not be worth it.

I decanted 2ml of my N░5 into a small atomizer yesterday,
applyed some on my arm, but I'm still not impressed.
I still think the EdP is both stronger, has more longevity and
better sillage than the parfum. Total bummer! I could have
gotten a 100ml bottle of EdP instead of that flimpsy parfum!
