Default Chanel Egoiste. I remember the smell from 1995

It was in 1995. I had been given a sample.
It had smelled very consistent and prominent with dominant ,,quasi-cinnamon" note (think of Obsession by CK).
Current formulation does not have this prominent ,,quasi-cinnamon" note.

Nowadays Egoiste smells like "perfumey" potpourri, less consistent and more transparent.
It is still amazing, however I long for the old one.

I have the current EdT, the vintage Cologne, and Cologne Concentree. I slightly prefer the modern version to the vintage ones. I know I'm in the minority on this one. I don't get cinnamon in the vintage. It may contain better ingredients, but the modern feels more seemlessly composed than the original, denser and smoother.

I have the full set too, a lot of vintages, some concentrees and current stuff too.
Vintage is thicker and denser while current is slihtly more citrus and bright but they are all very solid fragrances, current still pretty good and respectful

I've owned bottles of the original formulation and the cologne concentree and currently own the latest reformulated version, which I prefer the most, as it smells more modern and lighter, yet still lasts 8+ hours on my skin in the cold weather.

The rosewood has gone from natural smelling in the original to synthetic smelling in the revision.

I think I've only sampled the new one and can't stand it; comes across as "synthetic."

I remember having a bottle in 1991. Absolutely gorgeous fragrance!

I too have been thinking about the smell of this in the 90s as I wore Egoiste out the other night. I agree it has 'lost' that special something. Yes, it is more synthetic than it used to be, still nice, but yes it has changed.

    spot on!

aforetime, the blast of cinnamon with sandalwood and rose made it an outstanding fragance, now is just a good one.

Can someone give me the date of reformulation?
    Thanks.
And maybe describe the difference between the bottles. I have a 100ml bottle with a black cap but I don't think it's the vintage version.

Egoiste was reformulated approximately 2-3 years after its release in the U.S.A. It had very poor sales in the states at that time.

What a coincidence: Yesterday, at Nordstrom's, there was a tester of Egoiste on the counter in the mens fragrance department and I was stunned! I asked the SA about it and she was clueless (she mistakenly thought Egoiste and Platinum Egoiste were the same scent). She said that the Chanel rep was in the store, the previous day, and perhaps the rep accidentally brought the Egoiste tester with them by accident. In any event, I doused my hand with it, because I am currently out of my decant and I sort of miss it.

I am sort of surprised by the above responses that say they like the 'new' better than the 'vintage' juice - that's surprising. I have not had a chance to sample them side-by-side.

Personally, I was stunned the one time I wore the vintage Concentree, and that's why I currently do not own a bottle because I've been hunting for this one (it's so rare). Still, I had a lot of pleasure wearing the one last night on my wrist.

So right! Nothing beats the Cologne Concentrée. Nothing!

I saw Egoiste at the Duty Free and was thinking of grabbing it on my way home. I have never smelled it before but I know I will like it because I haven't met a Chanel I have never not liked.

With the talk of reformulation, do you think it's still worth purchasing.

    Thanks in advance

We're still not 100% if there is really a 2nd reformulation. But, you could check their serial number and enter it on checkcosmetic.net. If it's from 2011 or earlier, then I'm sure it's the 1st reformulation, which is great and the modern version of the original.

Thanks to the both of you.

It sounds like its still the great classic it is. I am looking for a great sandalwood scent

I also belong to the fans of the vintage version, even though I also sensed the reformulated one, the old one seems more spice-intensive, in a positive and comforting way.
