Speaking of Bijan, for those of you who don't yet know, he passed away yesterday.

OOPS Forgot to mention that I added La Mome by Balmain to the list. The handful of members of the "La Mome Fan club on BN" will support that, I am confident.

    Nina Ricci Phileas

This is a rare gem! A sadly discontinued fragrance of immense beauty. Phileas is quite a complex composition that opens with a considerable amount of aldehydes, citruses and juniper for an overall effect that is at the same time stark, freshly-green and almost powdery. Patchouli rapidly makes its appearance joined by other spices (a light cinnamon) coniferous notes, leather and tobacco. In this phase Phileas reaches its peak of beauty with its perfect balance between the classic powerhouse style and an incredibly sophisticated elegance. In the drydown I get a lot of resinous notes (labdanum), pine, and cedarwood laying on a slightly metallic amber. Compelling and unique.

This is a very rare fragrance, so if you're lucky to find it, don't miss the chance to get it.

A masterpiece.

Tonight I want to share another affordable vintage scent that is worth its weight in gold.
    It's Yves Rocher's Pivoine.

This is a bright aldehydic floral, with a decidedly green personality. It's closet to Calandre, but has its own very distinctive personality. It has a very soapy freshness about it, too; and by soapy, I am refering to the sort of clean, soft soap JLo's Glow smells like, and not the nose-searing fatty aldehyde note the bigger aldehydes use, like Madame Rochas.

I find it entirely timeless, and I imagine anyone who loves scents like Chanel 19, Calandre, and Rive Gauche would be ecstatic to wear it.

This is a total five star vintage, which can be bought for under fifty dollars.

Wow, this is amazing. Out of control wonderful. Knit, you are fantabulous

I did not see Eau de Fleurs by Nina Ricci an absolutely essential summer floral for me. Light, wearable, aldehydic floral, but not the make you feel faint type.

Cheerful and playful scent with beautiful raspberry note. Sounds pinky-girly, but it's not.

Another treasure for those with a sweet tooth. Synthetic? -Yes, but perfectly balanced.

Essence Pure Pour Femme by S.T. Dupont
Absolutely unique fragrance with elegant floral composition and ambery softness. Amazing longevity and projection.

    L'eau de Kasaneka by Menard
Absolutely gorgeous "green oriental" in a beautiful bottle. EdT is kind of weak, but EdP is just perfect.

    Dear Sophi,
Are you sure you don't mean Magnolia is closest to vintage Anais Anais? I find those two to be almost identical. To me, though, Pivoine is very different from AA... Hmmm....

Magnolia is closest to older Anais Anais on me too.

How could we forget to put L'or de Torrente on the list? Do I have concurrence on that one before adding???

Wearing it for TWolf's B-day made me think to check the current list....

I love the Apparation bottle. It looks like it should be lucite. I need to try it again because I can't remember what it was like.

And I looooove L'Eau de Kasaneka! A Basenoter sent me a decant of that. It really is gorgeous.

I also enjoy reading this thread for the pure enjoyment of it. I have bought Quartz by Molyneux and J. del Pozo's In White. I love Quartz, but I'm having a hard time with the jasmine in the other. I had the same problem with Murmure. Sometimes it loved me, and somtimes it made me feel queasy.

So unforgettable, we forgot to mention it before now. Will fix.

@ lilybelle I got a similar reaction to Murmure, and I can only do In White in small doses.

Dang it! L'Eau de Kasaneka's notes looked really good on FG

    A couple of more recommendations:

Bleu de Chine by Marc de la Morandiere - gorgeous floral chypre with a hint of spice

Michelle by Balenciaga - beautiful and full-bodied raspberry chypre, I don't know why but I smell raspberry...

I also don't see original Genny.

If you accept humble perfumes here, I'd suggest that Covet is a perfume that has gone down to dime store level but its quite good.

And some of the much despised Avon perfumes are good, best maybe Rare Gold and Absynthe.

As far as Avon concerns many vintages from Avon are great treasures like:

Volupte by Oscar de la Renta. I just tried this, and although quite floral it certainly is underestimated judging by the prices on ebay.

How about Niki de Saint Phalle the artist's one and only scent? An iconic 80's chypre, it still has many fans, even for the vintage body creams and bath oil.

Commonly listed on eBay as "Saint Ralle" LOL!

I admid I detested this when it came out. I wasn't woman enough for this mean green, aromatic chypre queen, back then

Love Volupte and Niki. The parfum and the cream are spectacular finds. As for Avon's being "despised", not by me, at least not some of the oldies. Forest Lily, Avon's DvF scent is still beautiful and I still enjoy "Here's my Heart" a 1957 lovely floriental heavy on the lavender and orange blossoms. It is the only scent that ever caused a guy to follow me around campus back in the 70s. Sigh. I wish they'd bring back the old gems and dispense with the trendy jazz.
