Thread: Savage Samples...
Just bought samples of:
Mona di Orio Cuir
Montale Cuir d'Arabie
Les Muscs Khoublai Khan
Histoires de Parfums Ambrarem
These all have a reputation. Let's see if they live up to their billing!
MKK and the Montale are wonderful, one deliciously dirty and the other a leathery animalic punch. I don't know the MdO.
Ambrarem is evil in intent and execution, a combination of pepper spray and bilge intented to harm.
The MDO Cuir is average imo
I have yet to find a Mona that blows me away..
Out of these, l've tried the MdO; it certainly is smoky, & a very strong scent of burnt pepper steak on this skin.
MKK l find much more cuddly than its reputation suggests. lt is animalic, but with a soft, powdery, sweet musk drydown. l adore it on Mr teardrop.
"What is this secret connection between the soul, and sea, clouds and perfumes? The soul itself appears to be sea, cloud and perfume..." - from Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis.
Samples have arrived. I ended up with Leather Oud and not MdO Cuir, so...
MKK: Well, this is as extraordinary as its reputation has led me to believe. More than anything else, it is evocative. I'm not exactly sure who, what or where it's evoking just yet. As animalic as they come, obviously, but not a stench, by any means. Actually, animalic in the sense of the human animal. Not erotic, like AplS is erotic. Bewitching in a subtle way, almost ghostly. It did, in fact, just upset my cat.
Cuir d'Arabie: Amazing! I think this is the leather I've been searching for. Uplifting! Need to spend longer with it.
Ambrarem: I'm not getting the evil here. Opens with a blast of brined cucumber, slips into a delicate, delicious vanilla tinged with iris and crushed greenery. Really lovely.
Leather Oud: I wasn't totally impressed by the opening: civet, vetiver and patchouli. Rather than a reeking beast, it was a bit like a puppy jumping up and nipping me... Now the woods are creeping in, the cistus, some birch smoke. Wow: suddenly, the oud! I was bored with it; now I'm intrigued.
