    L'Artisan Parfumeur
    Al Oudh
    (2009)
    Bertrand Duchaufour
    Spicy Oriental

    ------------------
Top Notes: Cinnamon, Cardamom, Pink Peppercorns
Middle Notes: Neroli, Rose, Leather, Civet, Moss, Castoreum
Base Notes: Agarwood, Sandalwood, Atlas Cedar, Patchouli, Myrrh, Incense, Vanilla, Tonka Bean
    ------------------
Warm spices start this off, with a little bit of sparkle from the pink peppercorns. Then some heady florals mixed in with moss and animal notes come up, but the base notes are already rising by then, slightly upstaging the heart notes' clout. The marriage of these top and heart notes to an excellent woody oriental base completes the scent. A fine balance and a bit of continuing development till the base fully takes over and lingers quite a while. This scent is great for longevity and moderately strong for sillage. All in all, another good job by Bertrand Duchaufour still bringing hot stuff out of that hot oven! (Sorry about the pun! It was irresistible.)

Trying out -thanks to Bloomy! - the newest Diorissimo and things are not going well. It's been years since I wore this and my memory is of a limpid muguet undergirded by the most tender jasmine with that richness one (I) associates with "fine French perfume".

So far this is is strident and - burnt rubbery! After that first blast the jasmine - less than ladylike - came barreling through, still trailing the rubber. It's only been a short time. Maybe things will improve. Dommage!

    Knize Two (1978)
    by Knize

Top Notes: Galbanum, Green notes, Bergamot, Lemon, Petitgrain .
Middle Notes: Violet, Jasmin, Carnation, Orris, Rose, Aldehyde .
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Musk, Tonka, Moss, Amber.

This lacks the complexity of other Knize fragrances, but it has a simple charm, and has much to delight in. The opening is a bright citric blend, entwined with an approaching violet note. As the early citrus elements are discarded, I am aware of a taut aldehydic presence supporting the now potent and rich violet. A distant chorus of florals adds a light sweetness to a production that will evolve little, but slowly mature into warm and aromatic floral. It is an obvious candidate for unisex classification, and a flexible addition to any formal wardrobe

Guerlain Eau de Coq this morning. The quintissential cologne: intensely beautiful for a short while, then ethereal and fleeting to the fade point. I'll carry a small decant with me to refresh as needed
