    Default Chanel No. 5 edt current version. Have you tried it?

    I just sprayed some at Sephora today. It's not how I remember it, though I must admit it's been ages since I've tried it. I owned a set of edt, parfum, and some body products but it was more than 20yrs ago. And maybe a few years back I did test some at a store. Today's version smelled different even from that. At least on the paper strip. I did not spray on skin. It reminded me more of LLP's Crepe de Chine than Chanel No. 5.

    I've read lots of alarming things recently about No. 5 being reformulated, even the parfum. This saddens me. I was hoping that at least the parfum would still be good. Has anyone else tested the edt, edp or parfum (current formulations) of this recently? What's your opinion of them?

    ages=exactly?...
    anyway, you just might have changed your perception over it, and nothing more.

    w3pearl, I think it's been at least 20yrs since I've actually worn it rather than just sampling in the store. It's true, it could just be my perception. But that's why I am asking for other opinions.

    The parfum has definitely been reformulated. I had a small decant from TPC, and it was different than the newer bottle I have. They were both great, so I am satisfied. However, I can see how some who wore it "back in the day" might not feel the same way

    Thanks Asha! I'm a little relieved. I keep meaning at some point to buy another bottle of the parfum. It gives me hope that you enjoy the current formulation.

    I have a new bottle of the EDT, c. 2006, and it's not bad. I have no idea what vintage smells like, so I am happy in my ignorance.

    The vintage edt is richer and muskier compared to today's version.

    I've been wanting to spritz some current edt on ever since I finally realized that the concentration that best works on me is the edt (I have two vintage minis..that are just to dieeee for..I even prefer it over the bottle of vintage parfum I found forgotten somewhere in the depths of my mothers closet (unsealed!!) (btw, is it like a blasphemy to say I prefer the edt??? but I always keep forgetting! So..I think the thing to do is get me a bottle of vintage juice on ebay...but I'm sort of scared..because I've heard that a lot of no 5's out there are fake..

    It definitely smells different to me. I have some EDT that is about 10-15 years old and it doesn't smell like the stuff in the tester bottles in the department store, and I don't think it has changed in my bottle at all. It is a fresher scent now to me, more like the Eau Premiere or Coco Mademoiselle. I agree that the older stuff was richer and muskier tott. However, @ allabouteve, speaking of blasphemy I think I would actually prefer a modern bottle of the EDT. I don't like Eau Premiere at all, to me it just smells cheap. However, the new EDT I sampled at the store does seem to work better with my chemistry than the stuff in my old bottle.

    And the vintage perfume version that I remember from my grandmother is something altogether different.

    Hi,
    I find that the best way to buy No.5 on Ebay is to find a seller that is selling from their own or a relative's stash, or a store out of business and make sure he/she has good feedback. The picture should be of the actual item you will receive. Also, don't be shy about instructing the seller on how to package it to prevent leaking and worse.
    I've heard upsetting things about the lastest No.5 in all concentrations, so I am sticking with what I know I do like from the 1990's and earlier.

    I have a recent bottle of No. 5 edt (2009 or 2008 maybe), and I like it, but I agree that No. 5 has changed over the years. Most fragrances that have survived for so long have had to.

    If only all perfumes were reformulated so well. I think the current EdT is stunning.

    Thanks for your replies. Since I don't ebay, I think I'm stuck with what they're selling currently in stores. I'll give the edt a try on my skin the next time I see it. I'll just have to see if I can appreciate and enjoy the fragrance it is today.
