    Default What are Parallel Imports?

    Hi all,

I just needed some clarification on the topic title

What are the differences between Parallel Imports and the Non-Parallel Imports? Are they fakes? I've heard that parallel imports are very much cheaper than the kinds we get from authorized dealers. Why is that so? Is it safe to purchase parallel imports? Some of the perfumes my friends have bought also went bad much faster than those we get from authorized dealers. If we get the perfumes from wholesalers, how do we tell if they're parallel imports?

I know it's a whole load of questions but TIA to all!!

    Cheers.

There is a nice description here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_import

Basically, parallel imports = gray market. Just sounds nicer, I guess.

Given the quality of fakes now, I think it's hard to distinguish fakes from gray market. Since scammers tend to routinely offer lower levels of criminality as both plausible scenarios and "involving" criminality to deflect complaints, I would tend not to trust something openly proclaimed to be gray market. I would think it would have an excellent chance of being a fake. JMO.

They usually arrive in small batches through the intermodal system, but large orders are loaded like grain. ;-)

Chanel for a lower price? Real ones? Well, that is grey market: the distribution of products sold under a certain brandname outside the official marketing channels.

    It may have two reasons:

    1. Overstock
    2. The contracted manufacturer selling the goods. This is actually what is happening to many brands contracting manufacture overseas.

That is the reason you won't be able to find Chanel products in E Bay, they are working hard in order to avoid grey market. It seems it became a company policy not many years ago.
