Which of these warm "spice-bombs" do you like best, and why?

I voted Ambre Sultan. Why?!? Well, cut the long story short it smells awfully much better than that Tauer creation.

I like both of these but Ambre Sultan with its spicy opening and sweet golden amber dry down just beats Tauer's creation by a few notches. It's more complex and interesting and you get to enjoy the spicy stage of the fragrance then watch it change as the sweet amber develops more. Tauer's creation is also excellent with its strong projection and desert amber that is very evocative to me of the middle east.

IMO - desert air. I have both and consider them just different enough to be different and attitude or occasion driven.

What I mean by that is some days I want rich, full and a little loud - that's when I go SL
Other days I want a rich opening but keep it dry and more subtle = L'Air is what I grab.

Other times I throw PG's fuzzy L'Ombre Fauve on. I hope this made some sense to you.

On me, L`Air du desert Maroccain smells good. Ambre Sultan doesn't.

They're both very nice. Kind of similar; kind of not. LDDM probably the more refined of the two. But there's something about LDDM that I'm just not comfortable wearing.

My vote goes for Ambre Sultan.

L`Air is nice, but there is something in it that reminds me of cookies. Is it the same with Ambre Sultan?

Could be the vanilla & fruit notes I find fairly prominent.

These two are very equal in the voting poll.. I own L`Air. Are they different enough to own both?

I voted L'air. They are too different. L'air is more well-blended and balanced. Amber Sultan is about amber, 60% amber and 40% spice. But the amber is still dominant. I like L'air so much better

Absolutely, and I can`t see anyone who is at all sensible disagreeing with me.

I agree with PigeonMurderer they are both different enough to own both. But it's best to obtain a sample of Ambre Sultan as the spicy opening can be a challenge for some to wear. You need to try it to see if you are ok with it before spending a lot of money on a full bottle.

I did not vote; these two fragrances are wonderful in their own right. Neither one deserves to be a looser.

I don't think Ambre Sultan is even close... L'Air by a landslide.

I find them to be fairly different fragrances. One could easily own both. Still I'd take L'air du Desert Marocain.

First time I have seen the vote 50% - 50% considering 48 Bners voted! The conclusion being is that all of you that have voted have proven that you’re all connoisseurs and that’s really what makes Base Notes “tick” for me. THANK YOU

I won’t vote because I avoided Ambre Sultan in the first place simply because it’s the singular most popular SL scent worn by French men. Tauers is on my acquisition list so for the moment I will not tilt the voting.

The Tauer scent is too overpowering and turpentine for me. The Lutens is more wearable

Both are brilliant, and I'm happy to own them, as I find them quite distinct. I actually find the Tauer so strong (more so than AS, amazingly) that my bottle will last me a projected 350 years. In fact I'm still feeding off my sample vials ...

I like LDDM. It works year 'round. Amber Sultan can be too sweet and skanky, even for a skank fiend like myself. LDDM is much drier and not as sweet, but the trick is to definitely use a light hand when putting it on.

L'Air du desert Maroccain for me.

If you've got a large wardrobe, both are worth owning. However, if you wish to keep your wardrobe down to a bare minimum, having both is somewhat redundant. It took me a while to get into Ambre Sultan but, even now, its longevity is pretty abysmal on my skin. Even if that wasn't the case, I'd still go with LDMM.

I have always found Ambre Sultan to be a bit anemic, with a mini-me amber base and more dry spice than anything. I tried one of the new batches recently and its even more frail than before - I was never a fan but its now dropped even further down my amber list. I don't wear LDDM much, but to me its more dynamic, rich and luscious (with that dry feel) than Ambre Sultan.

I think they're both great. I've probably got more of a soft spot for SL fragrances though and have voted for AS.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I thought I'd resurrect this one. I've got a sample of LDDM on one hand and Ambre Sultan on the other, both beautiful and intriguing. What are you current opinions?

I found Ambre Sultan more unisex with L'Air falling on the masculine side.

They're quite different scents. The warmth of AS is more an amber vanillic soft warmth, whereas L'Air is spicier in a peppery way.

I went with Ambre Sultan, but I certainly wouldn't mind cuddling up to someone in the Tauer.

I don't like that slightly sweet vanilla thing in LDDM. Trivia - Luca Turin got married wearing LDDM.

Ambre Sultan is the only fragrance I regret buying. It smells horrible.

Both are difficult to wear but after testing both, I chose the enigmatic L'Air.
AS is too much amber for me. L'DDM is very evocative and truly paints a picture for me.

That's what I like about L'air, it's very mysterious and vivid with the image it projects. On the other hand, I like the dense warmth of AS, this is going to be a tough call!

I'm wearing AS today for the first time - snagged a 3/4 bottle off Ebay. It's great! I'd love a chance to try LDDM but buying a bottle online (a hundred-odd squid) is a bit too big of a hurdle for me right now and the chance of a bottle showing up on Ebay are - shall we say - slight...

I like LDDM much better because it's not as syrupy dense and heavy as Ambre Sultan. Ambre Sultan gets kind of nasty on me but I havbe to agree with others that there's also something about LDDM that makes me uncomfortable when I wear it.

    L´Air: the heavy lightness

they're both great bu LDDM is way more challenging. That's why I voted for it.

I got a decant of LDDM just because of this reason.
Five that I am enjoying right now

    1) Sel de Vetiver by The Different Company
    2) Spiritueuse Double Vanille by Guerlain
    3) Bois des Iles by Chanel
    4) Devin by Aramis
    5) Coromandel by Chanel

l'Air du Desert Marocain is the absolute winner.

The current formulation of Ambre Sultan is weak and personally, it doesn't do anything for me.
l'Air is like an orgasm to my nose.

Hmmz, I can easily do 5 sprays of l'Air from the 50ml, when I go clubbing.
