    Default Perfume destroy jewelry?

I had this beautiful pendant and i remember i sprayed perfume over it, I was actually intended to wear some fragrance on my neck but i have noticed the color of the chain is faded out
Does perfume really do that damage to jewelry?

Most likely it was the solvents in the formula or the alcohol. You may be able to have the chain professionally cleaned to remove the surface stain as I doubt it's anything more than superficial. Still, sorry to hear about this.

Perfume is definitely known to damage the finish on pearls; natural, cultured and faux. I've never heard about a reaction with metals, but I think you should just avoid spraying perfume on any jewelry to be safe.

Perfume will definatly tarnish jewelery especially plated and silver , its best to avoid applying directly on it

    Agreed - good advice.

Also beware stones like turquoise ( pearl already mentioned ) which is soft and porous and will change color if you allow contact with chemicals like perfume, soap sweat etc.

the alcohol alone could potentially damage some jewelry, and the oils of the perfume may have unforeseeable effects

I've had mainly costume jewelry ruined by perfumes, until I wised up and figured out the cause! Now I don't let it touch jewelry of any type when I spray.I also give a good rinse after wear to any piece that rested against perfumed skin.
