Default What Is YourFB Fantasy Wardrobe?

I doubt I am the only one here who dreams up the perfect perfume wardrobe... you know, that collection of scents I'd quickly compile if I became either magically wealthy (or magically magical )...

I find when I imagine which more-prohibitive fragrances I would care to have, some of the stuff I actually own in real life becomes superfluous. My fantasy wardrobe would be somewhat pared down actually, yet replete with oh so many more really pricey scents .

I thought it would be fun to start a thread, in which we could each 'flesh out' our fantasy wardrobes in written format...sorted by house, genre... or whatever. I'd so love to see what many of my fragrant compeers would hypothetically 'spring for' and/ or deem valuable, in the event of unfettered perfume manifestation!

I am moreover curious to see if our collections might shrink or grow!

And unlike the restrictive "only X amount" threads, this one is an exercise in LACK of restraint.

PS I don't want to go first...

    WOW!

I will need to work on this. But I can tell you right now that Guerlain QVLP is probably at the top of the list.

Now - to start assembling my answer...

Mine's easy! It's basically a pared down version of my current drobe, with an addition and modification or two....

    Chanel No. 22 edt
    Tabac Blond edp
    Alien
    Borneo 1834
    Le'a (Saffron James)
    Tabu
    Nuit de Noel in extrait
    Bal a Versailles edt
    Eau Premiere
    No. 5 edp

....and maybe Bandit, Agent P Strip, Chanel Gardenia.

Do my posts get repetitive, or what ?

Oh, Sunnyfunny, that IS amazing. SO concise and hip and tasteful...

Well, I imagined mine was so much more concise than reality -- this actually took a while -- but when I actually thought of each house, it got big...

As for which formulations I chose, I'd like ALL of these to be in their original formulations, of course. I tired not to get bogged down in minutiae, like the bottle-styles I'd wish for.

Oh wow Hillair this thread is way-cool! Without financial constraints I would have two 1000 ml. gold Bee bottles of everything Guerlain makes, 500 ml of the Chanels, 500 ml of the Patous, a plethora of vintage fumes and a walk-in environment controlled fragrance storage archival room. I have always had a hard time thinking big in life but, this would be a good start.

Do you know, I think I'd be one of those whose wardrobes would shrink? Or at least stay about the same. I've discovered my must-have's. The rest are there for variety, and because I love to sniff something new. But with my fantasy wardrobe I'd probably be so focused I'd become a fragrance hermit.

It would all be about quantity and presentation:

I'd get Guerlain's large Bee bottles of Shalimar and L'Heure Bleue in extrait and edp. At least three of each, for fear that they'll be further butchered in the future. And Habit Rouge edp - before they send it to the chopping block. But spaced out a bit, mind you, so I can enjoy each purchase. Then, let's see, the largest pure parfum of Chanel No. 5 to be had (for the lady). And then I'd spend a little time tracking down the largest, most pristine bottles of vintage Shalimar extrait and LHB edc so I could enjoy the real deal for years to come.

Then I'd go N_Tesla's route: Presentation. A special temperature controlled room, custom cabinetry, tabriz rug, a few choice pieces of real Louis XVth furniture, and a Regency footstool.

    Khalaas!
Anakin: What was that all about?
    Obi-Wan: Well, R2 has been...
    Anakin: No loose wire jokes.
    Obi-Wan: Did I say anything?
    Anakin: He's trying.
    Obi-Wan: I didn't say anything!

This was tougher than I thought! I initially wrote an enormous list, but then I kept on thinking "Hmm, but if I have that, will I really be pining for that?" And so on. So here is the really, really short version, with my reasons for each!

    Amouage - Ubar

So sophisticated in classical, vintage fragrance way - yet, I've never smelled anything quite like this.

    Ava Luxe - Midnight Violet

Dark, moody, animal-centered violet of great beauty and now? Gone forever.

    Comme des Garcons - Champaca

Luscious, natural narcissus for when I want a clear, natural flower scent rather than an abstract floral.

Comme des Garcons - Stephen Jones

Bitter, almost icy violet with a heart of stone. Aldehydes at their most majestic and arresting.

Czech & Speake - Dark Rose

My first oud meets rose, and after a large number of others using this combo, has remained the favorite.

    Czech & Speake - No. 88

Geranium oriental with 'tude. It's a difficult yet interesting friend I like having around.

    Dior - Poison

Weighty floriental overflowing with personality - and sillage! Vintage eau de toilette is my preferred variety.

Estee Lauder - Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia

Deep, creamy, realistic tuberose and gardenia. Dozens on, still the best of the gardenias I've tried.

    Frederic Malle - Carnal Flower

Luscious green tuberose - easily the most natural among the tuberoses I've chosen.

    Frederic Malle - En Passant

Dewy green lilac that evokes strong emotions in me, only deepened by personal "history" involving it.

    Gucci - L'Arte di Gucci

Rose chypre with an intense animal personality like no other, even within its own little genre.

    Montale - Black Aoud

My new tolerance of patchouli has suddenly made me need a full bottle of this. Odd how that happened.

    Montale - Oud Cuir d'Arabie

Oud, rose, and a medical leather I suspect derives a lot of its oomph from birch tar. Animal, yet chilly - almost predatory.

    Neil Morris - Gandhara

Earthy, heavily animal, yet lush and transparent jasmine. Easily my favorite jasmine out there.

    Parfumerie Generale - Cuir d'Iris

Cardamon-tinged dry, spicy, tannic leather. Most aggressive on this list.

    Parfumerie Generale - Tubereuse Couture

Fascinating mixed floral with a sugar-cane note that takes me back to Miami.

    Parfums DelRae - Amoureuse

My favorite top notes of any fragrance. I do not say that lightly! Otherwise, a very enjoyable tuberose chypre.

    Penhaglion's - Elixir

Hypnotic blend of wood-steam, rose, and transparent spices. I keep being drawn to this, and it evokes good memories.

    Patou - Patou pour Homme

The only classical masculine that's ever captured my imagination. Everything you've heard is true!

Serge Lutens - Fille En Aiguilles

Sometimes a man needs candy. Fille does this in a hallucinatory candied pine, and is my favorite of Sheldrake's syrups.

Serge Lutens - Iris Silver Mist

Carrots and iris, earthy with an edge - I'd wear this once in a blue moon, but I'd love to have it around.

Serge Lutens - Rose de Nuit

My second representative of the dark, dense, moody rose chypres, but in first place in my heart. To my nose, it's just the densest, darkest, and driest of this category.

    Serge Lutens - Tubereuse Criminelle

My favorite fragrance for some time, now a favorite among equals. Wintergreen is an under-appreciated note.

Guerlain Djedi. My number one fantasy.

I think I have all of the others that I couldn't live without. Still I wouldn't mind the following additions:

The complete Caron collection in the best formula.

Perfectly preserved bottles of Ernest Beaux's Chanels as they were when he first made them -not that I don't love the current versions.

All of Jacques Guerlain's perfumes as they were when he first made them.

A little something that JP Guerlain throws together for me.

And finally, a box of mystery perfumes, selected by other members of the forum. It would contain those perfumes that I have managed to pass up -although I should have known better.

N_Tesla and Mr. Bon Vivant, I love the idea of a climate-controlled perfume room replete with display cabinets... I could/ would love to design a fabulous one of these, so keep me in mind, gentlemen, if you ever DO hit the big time. Seriously, this idea has me VERY excited, how FUN.

Have you seen bookshops wardrobe? I think there are hardly 20 perfumes left on the world, she doesn't already own. That must be the biggest wardrobe ever. Frankly, I was a bit shocked, when I saw it. :-)

    --------

I really thought about my dream wardrobe and about making it small. That's why I try to build it basic and make it bigger. That's fun, as I learn, which are my priorities.

Basic (= the one perfume I could never ever live without):

    Habanita

Extended Basic (= hard to live without):

    Tabac Blond (extrait)
    Bandit
    No.5 (extrait)
    Le Dix (vintage)

Bigger (= I'd miss them big time):

    Jolie Madame (vintage)
    No.19 (vintage)
    Cuir de Lancome
    Trussardi
    Prelude

All I need to be happy forever (as far as I know today):

    Shocking (vintage)
    Miss Dior (vintage)
    Dioressence (vintage)
    Diorissimo
    Bois de Iles (extrait)
    Cuir de Russie (extrait)
    Nuit de Noel (extrait)
    Rose de Nuit

    Cialenga
    Vent Vert (vintage)
    Ivoire de Balmain
    Bal a Versailles
    Knize Ten
    Narcotic Venus
    Joop femme

I think, the variety of these 25 perfumes is big enough to make me happy in every mood, every clothes and every weather. I don't own them all (the ones italic). I would have to spend some serious money to complete it. But maybe the thread is a good reminder of what to spend money on?

I have a to-try list and I think, that one or another would make it to my wardrobe, e.g.: No.22 or Quadrille. That's why the search will never end, I suppose. The last big surprise was Le Dix, which I found in a phase, where I thought, I'd sniffed it all -> everything is just a variation of my must-haves. Through Le Dix I found the other gems of Balenciaga. So, you'll never know.

A little something that JP Guerlain throws together for me.

And finally, a box of mystery perfumes, selected by other members of the forum. It would contain those perfumes that I have managed to pass up -although I should have known better.

Changed my mind today. At the moment, my dream collection would be a huge amount of Green Tea. Plain. But I can wear it anytime, it never ever makes me sick, not even when I have high fever. I always return to it somehow.

    Coty Chypre

I tiptoe up to the plate, as my list is so small most will find me small minded and short on creativity. But if I were shut down today, no more samples, here is what I could live with for the rest of my life with complete happiness:
Caron Or et Noir, En Avion, Alpona, Pour une Femme, Tabac Blonde
Guerlain Chamade, L'heure Bleue, Mitsouko, Apres L'Ondee, Nahema

    Ah hem.... that's it, actually.

Fun. I'll just list a few I have never smelled that I suspect will complete my existence - for now.

Quand Vient la Pluie. I think L'Heure Bleue & Apres l'Ondee are the two most beautiful scents in the world, and I also consider Insolence EDP a new sibling to these, all reports suggest QVLP is the other contemporary 'sister'.

Creed Neroli Sauvage. I like Neroli / Orange Flower and it seems from comments here this might be the right one for summer, although I am also intrigued by the Xerjoff variation on this theme (along with a couple of other Xerjoffs I have recently read about).

Invasion Barbare. I know this will slip into the more conservative frame of mind part of my collection - just a matter of time.
Amouage Tribute. There are a couple of other Amouage attars I would also like to have at hand.
Creed Windsor and the Feuille Verte (?) - why not?
Aramis Havanna (Reserva?), L'Artisan Havanna Vanille & C&S Cuba. Just because.
L'Ombre Fauve. I have heard so much about it, sounds like an interesting one.
Oriental Lounge. I like Celine Ellena's touch and I am sure this will not disappoint.
1969. It was a good year and a psychedelic sunset opening sounds good to me.
Orange Star. I want to like another Andy Tauer as much as I like LADDM.
Cologne du Parmeur. Gotta have it.

And throw in a few Xerjoff & Grosmiths for the hell of it.

OK - of the ones I have sampled I would add . . . actually adding as we speak - the order is in for a couple of these..

    Antico Caruso
    Mazzolari Mazzolari
    Sacrebleu.
    Maharajah.

    Honestly?

Every perfume in the world, past, present and future. So I could pick the scent for the mood/day/season and if I did not truly like a scent, I could find someone who did like it. (edit: And of course, have "back-up" for the inevitable change of mind!)

Dreamin' LARGE. (but where would I store it? I'd need a huge climate-controlled warehouse I guess. So... that as well.)

What a lot of fun! I think it would be great to have twin cellars: one for my husband's wine and one for my fragrances.

I have so much yet to discover that I won't attempt a comprehensive list. However, I can imagine being very happy with the following:

    • A 100 ml bottle of each fragrance created by L'Artisan Parfumeur ľ past, present, and future. Yes, all of them.
    • A selection of mini Caron urns dispensing unlimited quantities of the best formulation of each of their fragrances. Yes, all of them.
    • A bottle of each fragrance created by Parfumerie Generale ľ past, present, and future. Yes, all of them.
    • An unlimited supply of perfectly fresh Guerlain Chamade in extrait.
    • An unlimited supply of perfectly fresh Etro Shaal Nur.

There, I'm happy. If not modest. :-)

OOOH!!! That's a great idea for the cellar, I love those the look of those urns!

It makes me also want tons of vintage factice bottles, too. Which I could display on the tops of the perfume cases.

Cool Re: What Is YourFB Fantasy Wardrobe?

I've got to admit I love the way our Hillaire dreams

    My fantasy:

    1. Every vintage formula that scentemental has ever mentioned ( where the hell does he find them, anyway?)

    2. The original versions of Blenheim and Hamman Bouquets which Luca Turin wrote would be impossible to manufacture today due to price
( I doubt that even scentemental has the 100 year old formula juice for these two)

    3. My basic humble wishlist: http://www.basenotes.net/wardrobe/30&t=wishlist&p=1&s=n

    4. The best mysore sandalwood ever made.

Plus Windsor, Feuille Verte--and whatever Oliver made for The Pope.---Perhaps I could send Creed a blackmail note threatening to reveal the location of their secret salt lake (guarded by mutant civet felines) where they harvest ambergris from whales, unless they deliver these juices to my doorstep forthwith!

    Yes . . .Those should keep me happy for a while . . .

    Cheers,

    I am absolutely Actiasluna + 1!!!

Some people with this 'hobby' have already described it, I see it as the only way to know the past & present (and with futuristic creations, the future).
My idea is that fragrance is the most intense experience we can have as humans, so there is no more intense way to experience all times than through fragrance. Therefor I also would like to own everything that was ever made. Of course, I would not like everything the same, but I am just curious about a production that somebody put in hard time work and energy to think it valuable to put in a bottle.

Being part of communities like these make that DREAM more possible than ever, there are SOOOO many perfumes, impossible to buy them all, and knowing there are sooo many produced AS WE SPEAK!

But I surely see an emancipation of this profession. Now, more than ever, are the NOSES becoming the stars instead of the producers (enablers).
When I read the Avantgarde I read an interview with Kurdijan himself! And he being ambitious enough to create an own line like that.

Us knowing noses is something of this time too, again thanks to communities like this. The personnel in stores do not even know what a nose is so to speak!

    Good luck!

I would build a climate controlled room for my fragrances.

I would get a BIG bedroom where i could have a dresser where I could display the fragrances I currently wear.

I would pay a trustworthy and skilled person who could search for good vintage bottles of the classics on the internet and elsewhere and buy them for me.

I would buy the parfum of Shem-el-Nessim and Phul-Nana.

I would buy all Nicola´ perfumes, also the intense versions.

I have never yet tried an Amouage perfume, but I'm so rich you know, I don't have to get samples, I can buy all of them in full beautiful bottles.

I would buy Fleurissimo and definitely try out the Creeds to find out if there are more Creed fragrances I like.

Much more I can't say. I don't know enough. But Im sure that I would try out the Malle perfumes, the Ormonde Jayne perfumes, the Penhaligon's and Andy Tauer Perfumes. I also would try out the Guerlain and Chanel exclusives.

I also starting thinking about my wardrobe as an investment, like a bank account + interest. I have not yet sold a perfume, but when I see how expensive some perfumes get when they are discontinued. I had a large bottle Accenti when I bought it 7 years ago for a sale price, and look at it now! Another example, when Palazzo was discontinued I bought it on 'sale' in the city centre of Dublin. Look at it now! All the summer Escada's, extremely expensive. But I was thinking of saving all my perfumes and whatever I cannot use I'll give to my son when he gets older. By then so many will be discontinued or vintage formula's. This way I do not feel guilty anymore about buying :-)

I would be something of a perfume-world "taste maker" -- a grande dame-type, who is known and revered worldwide and has total carte blanche to pop in on perfumers at work and guide their progress... but not a hard-working writer like Burr or Turin... more like a fragrance-oriented Diana Vreeland: I would have to do little more than be occasionally quotable and undeniably "fabulous".

Can you imagine, what the worth of your collection will be when you are a grandma and your grandchildren look at the bottles from ages ago? I would like to leave that a 100 times more happily, than just plain cash on the bank.

Oh, yikes. I really don't know. It could go two ways for me: either *everything* I remotely like should be included, or only the best of the best of the best. And I'm damn picky, so the second option would give me headaches.

Heliotrope/Sun tan lotion: Jil Sander Sun, L'Heure Bleue
Lily: SL Un Lys, Hermes Vanille Galante, Ava Luxe Madonna Lily
    Musk: Kiehl's Musk, Reminiscence Musc
Neroli: MdO Jabu, L'Occitane Neroli EDP (vintage), Profvmvm Neroli
Eaux/Hesperidic: Diptyque L'Eau de NÚroli, Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta, Guerlain Cologne du 68, cKone
    Green: Philosykos, Lanc˘me Climat
Gourmand: L'Artisan Safran Troublant & Bois Farine, PG Aomassai 10
Other: Etro Anice, Il Profvmo Touaregh, Helmut Lang Anvers 2, Diptyque OyÚdo, L'Artisan Dzing!
Blind Buys: ELdO Like This, Satellite Padparadscha, AG Mandragore Pourpre (square bottle) and a Nasomatto. Don't care much if it's Absinth or Silver Musk or China White, I just want one of them purty bottles. And CdG Stephen Jones, for the same reasons.

I think me and those bottles would get on very well indeed.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.
