Just bought the White Tea Scent System for the wife for mother's day. Although it's not a cologne or perfume, it still puts us in the calm and tranquil mood. This is the Westin hotel's signature scent.
someone please stop me from buying more cologne.

If it doesn't have to be a fragrance, scent of granulated white soap, or fresh linens cleaned with that.

I think this one has a lot to do with childhood experiences. A mixture of lavender, soap, camphor, naphtalene and wood smoke paints me the most calming scent.

For some reason Tommy (Hilfiger) came to mind first. Gucci ph II as well, although I have trouble wearing it; its very soothing and relaxing. Also many tea fragrances, mint (when done right) and as many have said lavender.

Lavender does it for me. Cheap lavender, though, because if I were to use Kilian's A Taste of Heaven or something to relax, I'd just be stressing-out about how much money I just spent to have a peaceful moment. So, I go with Caron's Pour un Homme or Azzaro's Pure Lavender for such occassions and save the Kilian's for use in public.

Lavandula by Penhaligon's - I often spray it on bedclothes if I want a particularly good night's sleep (not that I ever want a bad one obviously lol).

    A lovely warm Lavender fragrance.

I agree. It's a very calming fragrance to me, too. Also Bvlgari pour homme falls into this category for me.

I really wish there was something I could find that would have a desired psychological impact on me. Alas, I can't, perhaps bad luck, the cocktail of prescription meds I'm on, my own psychosis or a combination of the three. The closest are Tam Dao definitely. And even better Dove and/or Ivory Soap.

    I've always been told lavender has a calming effect but personally I'm finding it with certain clean violets,sandalwood and white musk scents. A few I have noticed work for me;
Le Labo Santal 33/Profumum Antico Caruso
L'Artisan Verte Violette/Borsari Violetta di Parma
Creed Original Vetiver/Mugler Cologne/Tom Ford White Suede/MFK Petit Matin
and most recently for incense, L'Artisan Passage D'Enfer.

Not loud, not overly complicated. Very much a scent for yourself to enjoy. Just a calming churchy incense scent that keeps close to your skin.

I still haven't tried this but I really need to since I've liked the other CdG incense's and have heard this is similar to L'Artisan's Passage D'enfer.

I haven't had any experience with Passage D'enfer, but CDG Avignon is my favourite of incense lines - followed very closely by kyoto.
I have a candle of Avignon that I use on a very stressful day

Now I need to go order samples of these immediately. I've heard good things about both but for some reason I started backwards and got Jaisalmer and Zagorsk first. Thanks for the recommendations!

Came here to say Caron Pour un Homme. I see somebody has got there first! Lovely lavender/vanilla/musk.. Beauty in simplicity. Very nice. Fits what I'd imagine the "calming and relaxing" criteria to be perfectly. Inexpensive also.

One I currently find quite calming is Kingdom of Dreams.
