Default Rite of Passage: Perfume Cabinet

Today, I moved all of my perfumes and fragrance samples into a cabinet dedicated to their safe storage. My husband found a beautiful mahogany TV cabinet from the 50's--when television sets were encased in furniture. It stands 25 inches high (we removed the legs because they were damaged) and is now on brass rolling casters, which match the inlaid brass piping on the doors. I think it has an art deco look to it. The TV tube and all electronics were removed, and boards were fitted over the back and floor of the inside. A shelf was added for the smaller items. I haven't figured out how to light it yet--I will only add a little lighting to help me find things in there.

Overall, although not fancy, I like it. And it sure beats the dozen or so cigar boxes scattered around the bedroom. The cabinet is in my study, which is cooler than the bedroom in summer. Here is a link if you would like to see it: http://tinyurl.com/24k77cs

You can look at my wardrobe for an idea of what's in there, but there are a lot of samples and small vials I have yet to list. I'll get around to it shortly...

Oh that is a wonderful way to recycle a TV cabinet!
You are in Boston- When I was a kid in Essex County my dad had a part-time TV repair business and used to work on big boys just like that. Thanks for the memories.

That's a great "repurposing"! (looks like you have some vintage Émeraude, my SoTD, in there...)

Thanks for all of your kind comments. Yes, I have a good amount of vintage Emeraude, actiasluna. It is one frag I feel I can never have too much of...Monsieur Le Duc, I just lucked into that Chanel No. 5. I wish you the same luck--just keep your eyes open. Anyone have ideas for lighting? I'm thinking of something low-wattage that won't get in the way...

Low-watt low temp LEDs on strips would be perfect. (I say that 'cause my li'l brother is in cabinet lighting, for stores, etc. He makes them and sells either custom or stock strips. The nice thing about LED's is their light is "clean" and makes things in that light look wonderful.

(I can give you his contact info if you like, PM me)

Hi rogalal, I only have one Annick Goutal and it's Heure Exquise in the 50ml bottle. Maybe it just looks big where it is standing next to some small bottles...
