Thread: Maple blossom!

  1. #1

    Default Maple blossom!

It blooms in spring, May, so delicous scent. I first thought this was Linden blossom but no. Fresh light citrusy appleish with sweet honey undertones I havent heard many people talk about this one. Is there any perfume that uses it?

I am surprised to hear that maple blossoms have an odor. I've had maple trees in my yard all my life and never noticed the scent. Next year I'll have to make a point of taking a whiff.

Im, suprised that I seem to be the only one that recognize this delicous scent. Maybe its hard for some people to smell, cause its very airy. Flowers are yellow-green/limegreen.
    So nice!

Just to show my ignorance, what are Maple Blossoms? Are they actual flowering blooms, or are they the "helicopters" as we've always called them? All my life I've been around maple trees....and I have no clue as to what a Maple Blossom is. Please explain - I'm eager to know!!!

    Thanks!

I've noticed the maple blossoms, but never a smell. Of course I'm allergic to maple pollen, so in addition to trying to keep a certain distance from maple trees when they are blooming, it's generally not the best time of the year for me to notice delicate scents. I think maple pollen is a fairly common allergy - so for a certain amount of people that could explain why they never smell them.

I wonder if poison ivy flowers have a nice scent ....

Ah, samaras/whirligigs! (Seattle was full of 'em, so I did the attached drawing). The flowers though, I don't remember the smell, and I too am allergic. Name a tree, I'll respond with a sneeze!

Oh. I remember seeing those now, but never considered them as "flowers" (duh). I guess I'll have to see if I can smell them next year - fortunately, I'm not one who's allergic.

    Thank you for educating me!!!

Is there really no one else who like this scent?
Kinda strange cause its a so common tree.
Has it ever been used by the perfume industry?

    Oddly: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/252...ere-to-find-it

I can't quite get a peg on what the country differences are between maples, sycamore and planes, but they are all in acer family (I think!). The outside smells wonderful today - it's been very hot, but it's hard to differentiate how much of that is from the sycamore.
Out here we are running for the wide open spaces, the road-smell after the rain.

    What is sycamore and planes?
They look similar to maples imo.
However is strange that it seems to be a pretty unknown scent.
The maples flowers are gone now in Sweden. I miss the scent.

Sycamore trees (leaves) have a heavy fragrance that hangs in the air on humid summer nights... Their shape is somewhat similar leaves to maple but they are larger and have that distinctive odor.

If you read the thread linked in post 13, there is a bit of discussion on this. Apparently sycamore is in Un Jardin Sur le Nil.

Synergie has just sent me some Sur le Nil. It arrived thismorning. Not at all what I was expecting. It bursts open with a fizz of artificial citrus on me. It has now settled to a superclean smell, as if I have been superscrubbed with fresh air. Not at all a natural smell. I am waiting to see what happens next.... and will be back to report....

Un Jardin sur le Nil.... I can see that this is a nice perfume to wear after the chemical opening. It's drying down to a lovely gentle wood, and possibly this could be the sycamore note. It still has that just washed feeling, and I could see that as it is so gentle, it would make someone want to nuzzle up to smell more of it. It just teases, and leaves you wanting just a little bit more... but you cannot have it unless you get closer..... and then..... poof.. soap, then gone

A sharp beginning, no sillage and short lived, but very clean and pleasant at the end. Nice if you like clean, tidy smells that don't linger.

As I write this, the box beneath me saying similar threads is mentioning fenugreek for maple smells. I haven't got that oil to check it out.
