Default Lack of new perfumes on Basenotes directory

    Hi everyone,

I confess I don't have any knowledge of how our very, very useful Basenotes directory is maintained, but I've noticed that several new scents haven't been added to it yet, specifically: Tauer's Orange Star, Hermes' Voyage, Serge Lutens' L'eau and the latest Escale from Dior.

Is there a forum/page where we're expected to suggest new scents for inclusion?

Thanks synergy :-) but my goodness, the list in that forum is huge! I guess you're right: it WILL take a while.

Just enter things as you think of them or come across them. They do eventually make it into the directory, but it can take a while.

Last major update (minus the fragrances mentioned on the news page) was a little over 4 months ago. That's what "may take a while" means.

I have to say that Basenotes stands to suffer as a site as long as the Directory is soooo slow to update. Is there any way that seasoned members can help Grant move things along faster???

I really fear that the site will lose readership at the current pace of Directory expansion.

When "biggies" like Guerlain's Tonka Imperiale and Cologne du Parfumeur aren't added in a timely fashion, it feels like Grant has just "checked out" on us. The directory, the reviews, the wardrobe feature, and the women's forum are what make Basenotes for me. Can't read reviews on new frags, can't update my wardrobe with new things I've sampled. Now Perfume of Life is going to reveal some kind of big makeover. Not that I plan to abandon ship, I just wish BN was as vital as it used to be.

I second all you said ,Quarry. It gets frustrating when you can't update your wardrobe or write a review because a fragrance or 1000 are missing.
I'm sure some seasoned members would help Grant out with keeping the directory up to date if that is what it takes.

Yes, but how many hints will it take?

Me, I'm just hoping that enough folks such as your good selves are willing to fork over some cash so Grant can get hired help.

With somewhat idealistic endeavors like BN, it's not "you get what you pay for" but "pay for what you want to get". A fellow BN-er was griping about server issues or somesuch in another thread. This person had thousands of posts. Been here for years. Evidently likes the joint. Supporter? BN Plus? Hey, maybe just helpful suggestions? Or how about simple gratitude towards Grant? Not on your Nelly!

No, no Mimi honey (I'm from the South, I can't help myself) NO CRITICISM OF YOU INTENDED!!

I think was venting a bit 'cause that person ticked me off... and actually inspired me to send some moolah Grant's way, so I guess I am grateful.

You and the others posting here I referred to as "good selves" = supporting members providing helpful suggestions. And voicing legitimate concerns, which I share.

I'll only add, more explicitly, that there are those among us who would be willing to donate our time and our energy (along with our cash,) if it would help to expedite basic functions like Directory updates - without which I fear Basenotes cannot thrive.

Agree 100% and have also offered to do directory data entry.

I suspect it will happen soon. I inquired recently, and I know that Grant has been busy coding on the stuff to allow us to input the data. I think he just got interrupted with the BN fragrance mailings. Hopefully we just need to hang on a bit...

Hooray, I noticed a small update was made recently! Even if it's only one scent I've been waiting for, it's worth it.

And, I too, have offered my time for data entry services.

At the moment I'm torn between (a) just adding stuff - or (b) adding the functionality for others to add stuff.

I'm going to spend an hour adding stuff from the missing frag area, before doing anything else (coding, answering emails etc)

    Thanks for adding !

Perhaps you should let others add stuff, Grant ( maybe part of BN Plus ) - you have a load of other work to do too .
