Not a cardinal rule, but just a random overview regarding the frags more likely to be worn by me, on these following occasions

Summer casual: Guerlain Vetiver, Versace Blue Jeans, Capucci PH
Winter casual: Guy Laroche Horizon, Crabtree & Evelyn Sienna

Summer night out: Ungaro III, also Gucci Envy for Men, Boss Bottled, Cerutti 1881 Amber
    Winter night out: Chanel Antaeus

Formal: Tabac Original, Knize Ten, Antaeus again

For sweet kicks: Rochas Man, On El

I have no rules--I wear what I like--but when warm weather approaches, I choose more citrus/florals (Cologne Imperiale, Kelly Caleche); in cooler weather, I choose warmer, heavier scents (PdE Cuir Ottoman).

Then again, these guidelines, too, can be broken.
