Default Should I even bother with scented aftershave balms?

I'm fairly new to fragrances and have started a very small and modest collection of scents that peak my interest. I have noticed that many of these colognes also have an aftershave balm version as well. Do these balms live up to the same scent quality as their EDT counter parts? Are they worth getting? Or shoud I stick to my unsented Nivea aftershave balm and rely on the EDT sprays for the fragrance?

While aftershave (splash) may smell awesome for about ten minutes it’s not really its job to smell good. Its job is to regenerate or desinfect your skin after shaving. If it does that it’s a good aftershave. It’s primary skincare, not perfume. If you also like to start the day with the uplifting smell of it, that’s a bonus. Balms, to me, don’t smell very convincing. A good aftershave splash can be very good for your skin and smell awesome.

That said i dearly miss my L’Occitane Cade splash and the scented balm is no substitute.

I have Gendarme balm, which is nice as a moisturizer but I think I'm just going to add some Gendarme to unscented face cream next time around.

There are a few that do quite well. 1805 comes to mind.
