In the US, no fragrance ad, men's or women's, has has gotten more airplay than this one... what, maybe 10 years of Christmas and Mother's Day? Talk about recycling.
Acqua di Gio: man (Lars Burmeister) splashing about in the sea
Davidoff Cool Water: man (Josh Holloway) emerging out of the sea.
Gucci by Gucci Sport: man (James Franco) climbing out of the water.
Either this or the usual sexy couple getting it on. C'mon you so-called creative ad people. Is this the best you can do?? Templates???
Maybe they can learn a few things from the school kids:

It's really quite pleasant, except for the smell (...)

What really gets my mind is that some global advertising agencies have very sofisticated advertising and brand planning protocols, these being very useful when it comes to achieve brand differentiation. It seems this is of no avail in the cosmetic industry, a fact that makes me think that in that sector it must be fairly easy making profits.
So, for the time being, we will be seeing the same kind of ads for different brands over and over again.
I dont think I've seen a fragrance commercial on TV in years. Is it just because I'm mostly watching non-major network cable channels?
Despite all the hoo-hah about how explicit they were, I didn't mind the Tom Ford for Men ads! But Id agree that most fragrance ads, particularly mens fragrance ads, are just recycled. You can usually tell when its a 'fragrance ad' on TV in the first 2-3 seconds.. What happened to ads like Chanel's one for the original Egoiste?
