Default I Need Guerlain Reviews: Cologne du 68, Cologne du Parfumeur, Homme Intense

As some of you may recall, I'm not a fan of Guerlain fragrances. However, I decided to give a few more a try. Does anybody have any comments on Cologne du 68, Cologne du Parfumeur and/or Homme Intense?

I'm especially optimistic about Cologne du 68, as I've heard that it's quite a departure from the traditional Guerlainade accord that seems to be a common denominator in many of their fragrances (and the thing that really seems to turn me off).

To me, Cd68 is nice but almost a "novelty" scent because of the 68 different notes "hook." I have it, and think that it is a good warm weather scent, but haven't given it enough wears to really say. Definitely a departure from Guerlain, and frankly this scent seems more like a Caron!

Cologne du Parfumeur is very citrusy (in fact, very orange-y), and I much prefer the less citrusy Cologne Imperiale with the blended florals.

I just received a sample of No. 68 från Mr. Guerlain (thanks!) and I can comment on that one. First off, I can say that is not for me. The opening is just downright wonderful, it is just da bomb. Very green and juciy and stays that way for a few minutes. But then it goes into it's softer vanilla and amber phase, and it doesn't work on me at all. It reminds me a lot of a weaker version of their female fragrance L'Instant. Almost a dead ringer actually.

But it is absolutely gorgeous on my girlfriend and she is getting a bottle. She just swoons over it every time she sniffs the sample. It brought tears to her eyes the first time she smelled it. It was amazing to watch her.

Interesting. I had heard that it leaned more to the masculine side of unisex.

Then I'm sure to hate it. I don't ever recall enjoying any femme scents on me.

I'm a huge fan of Cologne du 68, but it's VERY Guerlain. The green herbal topnotes are quite similar to L'Instant (the mens version). It's that specific boozy anise note that makes it. The base is textbook boozy vanilla Guerlinade. Really, you'd probably hate it.

I've only smelled Homme Intense at the store. This is a horrible over-simplification, but imagine Guerlain Homme but darker, with a sort of rhubarb fruity quality in the topnotes. I'm kind of curious, but it smells very "designer fresh".

This is probably a stupid question, but have you tried Vetiver? It's probably the least Guerlain Guerlain...

I received a decant of Cologne du Parfumeur and I love its lemony quality! It fades fast though, so I don't see it as a fragrance so much as a refreshing body spray. As a fragrance, plan to respray very often.

If I bought this, I'd go for a big bottle, maybe the 250 ml, store it in the kitchen fridge (instead of the bedroom mini fridge) where I could grab it throughout the day to cool down while doing housework. I may just do that anyway, with some of my other citrusy fragrances.

I agree with this, Guerlain Vetiver kind of stands on its own.

And to me Cologne du 68 is kind of the Guerlain version of Caron Eau de Reglisse with additional GUERLAIN STUFF(tm). A Guerlain version of the "suicides" we used to make as kids by mixing every soda on the soda dispenser together...

I just received my samples of No. 68 and Cologne du Parfumeur. As another reviewer noted, No. 68 started out nicely but quickly devolved into a typical vanilla base. This is one that is truly better in concept than execution. Haven't gotten into the Cologne du Parfumeur yet, but will advise...

As for Vetiver, I've steered clear of it because I generally don't dig vetiver-centric frags (check my list below).

Yep, and I didn't like it at all. I'm officially done with Guerlain.

As you know I am quite a devoted Guerlain fragrance user and I have had Cologne du 68 for some time. It is a departure from previous Guerlains but, it is a very nice, easy to wear, daily type fragrance that would easily be considered an office and/or spring and summer scent. I don't consider it a "statement scent" like Mitsouko but, it deserves a place in just about anyones wardrobe IMO.
