Two that immediately come to mind as fitting your criteria: Givenchy Vetyver and MPG Racine.
in another thread i am looking for something that i can weare beside my beloved ENCRE NOIRE.
i have tried KENZO AIR but thats in my opinion not what i man should smell like.
its to flowery girlish metrosexuel
i tried a whiff from the classic guerlain vetiver and it just feels to dated for me.
i am close to 30 but in a way still 23
i love the harsh strange smell of encre noire but it is to "thick" for the warm weather.
so where are the modern vetivers without the sweet, flowerish notes ?
malles vetiver extraordinaire could be it but its waaay to expensive.
i have read about turtle vetiver which sounds nice, but its sold out.
can you give me more sugestions please ?
by the way, try wearing a leather jacket combined with encre noire.... you will feel like batman D:

I would suggest the recent Diptyque release, Vetyverio. It is fresh and woody, probably not heavy on vetiver as the classics (Creed especially) but absolutely wearable and very modern. 50 ms goes for about 50 quid in UK.
Second choice might be Infusion D'Homme Prada, that has a lovely vetiver dry-down. It is modern in a way, although a bit soapy probably. 50 ml goes for about 40 quid in UK.
Last choice, Jo Malone Vetyver, which opens with lovely lavender and closes with vetiver and (I think) cedar wood. If you like a sweet twist to it, try Jo Malone Black Cafe Vetiver, which has a bit of vanilla in the final stage: plus, i find it quite sexy :-) 30 ml goes for about 30 quid, not sure they have the 50 ml size.
They are all modern interpretations of Vetyver as a base note. Hope this will be inspiring!
you know i'am a bit like wayne rooney and franck ribéry.
not a model type
i want some kind of aggressiveness
Vetiver "Beast" like Encre Noire?
Some vetiver alternatives to Encre Noire are: Lorenzo Villoresi Vetiver, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Givenchy Vetiver - all these are dark and earthy like Encre Noire. Another one to try is Frederic Malle Bois d' Orage (French Lover) - it also has that beast of nature feel to it before you get to the vetiver base. The Lorenzo Villoresi is difficult to find for tests. They used to carry it at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC and online somewhere, but I haven't seen it lately. The two I would suggest that represent a more "beastly" side of vetiver are: LV Vetiver and Bois d' Orage.
Alright: Vetiver Bourbon, Miller Harris. Vetiver and booze, that will go just fine with your leather jacket, and it is decently priced.
If you want something sharp, maybe you can try Gray Vetiver Tom Ford, which is a sort of bitter vetiver that you might like :-) it isn't very expensive and there's nothing "model" type about it.
Or maybe the L'Occitane Vetiver, which is as straight vetiver as it can get. Not pretty, not sheer, woody vetiver and nothing else. There's something balsamic about it, and sillage is quite good.
On the very cheap side, there was a Zara Vetiver cologne out a few years ago, not sure it is still on the shelves, but it was plain and straight vetyver no-nonsense.
Getting closer? :-)

I own full bottles of Paul Smith Story and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. I have used the Grey Vetiver several times so
far this year. It's very sophisticated and well blended. Story is a cheaper vetiver. It's a dirtier smell. Not bad, but
probably not as safe as Grey Vetiver. Samples of Story are sometimes available on ebay.
Etro Vetiver is and earthy straightforward vetiver beast.
Also you may want to try Annick Goutal Vetiver, not flowery at all, but salty and earthy.
Vetiver Extreme by Guerlain. A poor man's Vetiver Extraordinaire, IMO.
Has anyone tried La Martina Bayres? I noticed this house is not in the directory (it is the official supplier of the Argentinian Polo team) but I recently tried this one and it an amazing vetiver scent and in a very nice bottle too.

[QUOTE=white;1849602] so where are the modern vetivers without the sweet, flowerish notes ?[QUOTE]
Montale's Red Vetyver is very dry and spicy.
Fat Electrician by ELDO. It's as modern as it gets.
Black vetyver cafe by Jo Malone
Sensual Vetyver by Carolina Herrera if you can lay your hands on one. Nice vetiver with an amber drydown.
For Sale or Swap: Terre D'Hermes
How about By Kilian's Cruel Intentions. Not strictly a vetiver scent, but I've always found it heavy on the vetiver.
The Bark Bites Back.
Interesting that you found KenzoAir floral. I don't get anything floral from it at all, unless you consider anise floral. Girly? Okayyyyyy.
Vetiver Extraordinaire & Chanel Sycomore are the best, in addition to Guerlain Vetiver.
Carlo Corinto Vetyver my friend.
I'm not really too sure on what criteria has to be met for a fragrance to be considered modern or not. I do know that if a Vetiver were ever to be named a beast I think it would have to be Vetiver by SMN.Probably the most potent Vetiver I have ever worn. I think I've mentioned this before, but I will mention it again. This Vetiver smells like the whole Vetiver plant was pulled from the earth, dried in the sun, than set on fire, and the fire was beat out with a damp Vetiver root ball. Then the whole mess was distilled, and poured into a bottle, and named Vetiver by SMN. I love it! Smoke, Wood, and Vetiver. Thats about it. Straight forward bone dry Vetiver fragrance.
Grey Vetiver and Vetiver Extraordinaire are hands down the best I have tried so far.
I would recommend Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford but I would not call it a beast. It is too tame for such a title.
