Default What's a good, basic, everday or work fragrance?

I'm looking for a fragrance that I can wear to work.

Something that smells fresh, clean, right out of the shower (I know, cliche) that's also potent, but not over the top.

I have sampled Theirry Mugler, Puro Lino and some of the CLEAN line. I like them, but I was looking for more suggestions.

    What's good?

The relatively new Gendarme EDP is great. It's the classic (original) Gendarme but in EDP strength. Doesn't get much fresher.

For fresh and everyday, I would say Habit Rouge EDT, but that is because I love it so much. It has a clean citrus/leather scent. It can also be bought for under $50 online for the 100 ml bottle.

I keep hearing how fresh the Gendarme scents are. I recently ordered 6 samples off their website. The cost should be
less the 3 dollars each, so that might be a fun way to get started. I love to wear Azzaro Chrome in the summer. It makes
me feel shower fresh and it also has some potency as well. I used to have a mini of Liz Claibourne Sport. It also gave me
    this shower fresh vibe.

I strongly recommend you avoid Mugler Cologne. It might have a reputation for being inoffensive, but that's a reputation it does not deserve. I tried it out for a few days with a sample bottle and I almost got sick from it. It has a sickly soft dry-down that makes it inappropriate for office wear.

Gendarme is nice and harmless, but it's not a man's cologne. That's OK if you like the smell, but as many women wear it as men.

Cool Water may be a good choice. Also some less suggested clean/fresh scents, you may wanna check out Michael Jordan which can be found cheap.. it has a grassy/peppery smell which I'd classify under fresh and clean; it also lasts for 8+ hours most of the time on me. Phat Farm Atman as well if you don't mind a little suede, it can be found for very cheap and is pretty basic, problem is longevity is pretty poor on it, I usually get 3-4 hours.

I have to agree with SirSmellsALot and praise BradW for the consideration they're making of the Gendarme products. They're a really good suggestion for you and will have great longevity and provide full "cleanness" during a day.

Also I'd suggest Acqua di Parma Colonia, the original one created in 1916. You can't go wrong with that one.

Chanel Allure Homme edition Blanche. When I just want a nice frag to wear to work & nothing tickles my pickle, more often than not I'll reach for this.

Funny you mention Acqua di Parma Colonia. I recently got some samples of Acqua di Parma Colonia Intensa, and wore it
for the first time today. I don't know how the original smells, but the Intensa is a citrus woody leather ordeal. I'm not
sure if this is "out of the shower" fresh or not. Unless maybe you use a leather towel to dry off with LOL.

I reach for Everlast Original 1910 when I'm thinking along those lines, but I like the leather note, which not everyone does. It's like a toned down fougere, with strong grapefruit up top and leather in the base.

Brad, yes, they're two different scents. The Intensa is indeed a leather thing, but the original Colonia is not at all a leather scent, it's a classic citrus neroli very clean and out of the shower fresh scent. Intensa is someone's idea of using a the AdP Colonia name association to get cred for a scent that is different in ways. (Part of the reason I tried to be specific in suggesting the original from 1916.)

Most of my wardrobe is built on work scents. I have to concur on Mugler Cologne and Gendarme for fresh, clean, out of the shower smells. Other good ones (some already mentioned) are Allure Homme Edition Blanche, Bvlgari Pour Homme, Versace Pour Homme, Ineke Derring-Do, Creed Erolfa, 212 Men.

Lanvin Vetiver (new). For me it is nice and clean, inexpensive, and last a whole work day (10-12hrs) with liberal application (8-10 sprays). Alot of people say it don't last, but I don't get that.

Cerruti's Image-Fresh Energy is another inexpensive, clean scent that last all day,but with leaner application (4-6 sprays).

The Aqua di parma is something I want to try also, and the Everlast does smell good. I want to try it for a wear.

I'm a big fan of Gendarme. If you end up liking it, consider getting the 10oz aluminum atomizer. You almost can't spray too much of the stuff.

+ 1 on Azzaro Chrome and 212 Men

A classic you definitely have to check out is Hermès Eau d'Orange Verte. Have you tried L'eau d'Issey ph? That one is powerfull and long lasting and smells like citrus & woods.

Have you tried Prada Infusion D'Homme? Starts out rather harsh but smooths out really nicely into the perfect clean smelling clean fragrance in my opinion. On my skin, It lasts for hours. I didn't have much luck with any of the Gendarme's in that respect.

Amongst my office fragrances are also Canali men, Sander for men, CK Truth for men, Chic for men, Monsieur Balmain... All of them are rather inoffensive and bearable for everyone.

My recommendation would be Gucci PH II - it's different (in a good way) and distinctive and easily lasts all day - moderate sillage but good longevity.

Well, the very popular ones are always safe bets. Acqua di Gio', Eau D'Issey, Green Irish Tweed.
+1 for Infusion d'Homme and ++1 for Acqua di Parma original cologne (or Assoluta. Intensa is a bit too sharp)

Why not try Paco Rabanne XS Pour Homme? I absolutely love it, and it's so cheap, a combination of l'Egoiste and Himalaya, awesome.

Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme. It's light, fresh, and has very nice woods in the dry-down. Very classy, and good for work.

I think a light application of Eternity might do the trick. Or maybe a light application of Paco Rabbane pour Homme.

I tried CK Free today and found it a perfect scent to be worn at an office characterized by its fobia to sillage. Not my cup of tea, for sure, but if you want subtlety, you've got it.

    Try this:

    Notes:
Green apple accord, amber, black patchouli and warm woods. Last all day long and it's a compliment getter. Better yet, no one else will have it in your office.
