Never fear! I was in the Guerlain boutique in Montreal, and they had bottles of SLV in the smaller size, very nice too.
And someone asked about Sisley's Eau de Campagne, I'm pretty sure that is not discontinued. My Holts has lots of them.

Agree that Diptyque's Virgilio is a loss, also L'Eau Trois.
Have to add the majestic Gucci Nobile to the list. Truly a classy scent.

Jil Sander Feeling Man and Polo Crest by Ralph Lauren. There might be many who disagree but I must mention The Original Claiborne For Men and Claiborne Sport For Men.....While they were not ground breaking scents.....they were better than all of the scents that they have launched since these were discontinued.
I know that these might still be found but I would like to mention them also.....Lancone Miracle Pour Homme and Hypnose Pour Homme.....Two Great fragrances that have been discontinued.

Sisley Eau de Campagne is still available at the local duty free though I'm not sure how it compares to the vintage version.
Likewise, some discounters still keep stock of discontinued stuff like Gucci pH (1979), Jill Sander, Ted Lapidus, etc. Hunting these down is quite fun, but can be bad for the wallet!

    I'll add to the list:
    Lanvin for Men (1979)

One Perfect Rose from La Prairie. Created by Guy Robert this scent was indeed the perfect rose. I've been trying to find something comparable for years.

Ody- I spoke with Jason Beers from Guerlain's Bergdorf Goodman - he says Sous Le Vent has indeed been discontinued and they have none at Bergdorf. *crying* He said he tried ordering it but it was not on 'the list' . I hate falling for discontinued scents ...really...

Kinda makes you wonder how many fragrances are discontinued that it really won't matter for a few years if it is, because of how much manufactured stock is still floating around.

It depends on the reasons it was discontinued usually, not the fact alone that it was.

For example, if a fragrance is discontinued because it came from an unknown house with no reputation or advertising that went out of business, or a scent itself was very poorly received and nobody wanted to buy it after bad reviews, tons of it will flood the market for years and the stuff may sell for peanuts in discounters online or at Marshall's until enough enthusiasts like us start buying it up en masse and talking about it online. I've seen discontinued fragrances from houses like Vermeil stay under $20 for literal decades and only recently start climbing in price and scarcity. Stuff like this stays under the radar for as long as we hobbyists allow it and once it starts getting YouTube reviews or forum hype, eBay scalpers will take notice and gobble it up to arbitrate price and supply.

On the other hand, you have things that were popular all the way up until the very day of their discontinuation, and were killed off because they didn't fit the new brand image of a house going under management changes because marketing forecasts the next big thing is more important than keeping an established line afloat. This was the case with Gucci twice: once in the 90's when LVMH took them over with Tom Ford in charge and purged the Scannon lines like Nobile and the first Gucci Pour Homme, then again when Coty bought Gucci and purged most of the LVMH scents. Scents discontinued in this manner shoot up in price and scarcity overnight, becominh "lost to this world" because the fragrances had enough fans to support continued sales when it was killed off.

Finally, you have stuff that is discontinued because after a long run it just can't reasonably be made anymore since styles have changed too much and sales have eroded over a long period or the ingredients are too expensive, scarce, or restricted/banned by current regulations (like IFRA or EU laws), with the removal of key ingredients changing the character of the scent so much that nothing can really replace them. In this case they re-use the name for a new scent or just give up and discontinue the fragrance. This has befallen many old-school chypres and fougeres that relied heavily on oakmoss, eugenol, or animalic notes, and how long it takes for supply to dwindle is a gamble depending on how long it was made and many fans it still had when finally killed off.

In short, there are a lot of variables here, but the general rule is if nobody missed it, there will be plenty for the few fans it had to stock up for years to come. If it was well-loved when killed off, hold onto your hat because a new unicorn is about to be born!
