Default Which fragrances maintain their top notes the longest?

I decided to post a thread on this today since my SotD was GIT. I noticed the top notes to last for about 2 hours on my skin.

A lot of Xerjoff retain the top notes for a very long time, Nio and Kobe especially on my skin

What about scents that are just incredibly linear? There are a few scents that stay relatively the same from beginning to end. Do those count?

I think Penhaligon's Castille does this very well. Yes the zing disappears after five minutes or so but actually it retains the essence of the top notes for hours.

I was thinking that too, but the difference is the power of the top notes. Power, projection, sillage and longevity of those top notes; being linear may confuse the question a little, I guess. With GIT, although it is fairly linear, I do notice the changes in notes.. they just blend together very smoothly. I notice the top notes with that somewhat metallic and candy-like smell/feel to last for nearly 2 hours before it takes on more a softer citrus and somewhat floral smell.

The frag that springs to my mind instantly is Lauder for Men...that sharp green opening stays for a very long time.

Dune pour Homme dosn't change much from applying to disapearing!

Neither does Xeryus Rouge de Givenchy!

The artemisia note in Xeryus is fairly persistent.

Knize Ten and Quorum both develop slowly.

IMO Fragrances with the Citrus note in the top. Sometimes with Bergamot notes.
Aramis (m) : I can feel Bergamot at first to end.
Creed SMW, Aqua Di Gio,...: with Citrus note.

    Linear fragrances, obviously.

Not really, Eternity is linear, but those top notes don't last very long.

As Jenson suggests from the Jardin line, I'm not sure if that's one of the ones I've tried, but I can say that many of the Jardins, in fact most Hermes frags have very long lasting top notes, and not one Hermes fragrance I've tried was very linear.

Then the dry-down is linear not the the whole fragrance itself.

I find that fragrances with a lot of sharp wood notes tend to have long-lasting top notes, since the top notes often contain large molecule wood notes.

For example, Visit by Azzaro has sharp wood notes in the opening, which seem to last well over an hour. Gucci Envy For Men, which is linear, never seems to really lose its top notes (again, a very WOODY fragrance).

From recent, very pleasant experience, Old Spice White Water. Almost linear, in a very fresh yet non-aquatic way.

You're fortunate! I find most citrus notes to fade away rather quickly. : (

For me the most tenacious top notes award goes to Black Aoud.

The "weirdly durable lemon" (as Luca puts it) of Monsieur Balmain sticks around for quite a while. It isn't quite a linear scent, but boy that lemon is pungent - personally, I think it smells a bit like Pledge furniture polish.

Hopefully somebody with more industry or DIY experience will chime in...but to my mind, it seems that the definition of "top note" is something that has a very high evaporation rate. As such, these montstrously long "top notes" everybody is discussing are probably mid-to-base notes that are apparent when the fragrance is first applied.

The elusive watermelon note of Millesime Imperial (Creed) will last if you apply it to clothing.

Castile, L'Anarchiste, and Silver Mountain Water are the 2 that do this extremely well in my collection.

Others I'm not fond of which hold their tops for a long time are New Tabarome, GFT, Terre D'Hermes, and Chrome.
