I think this is the website !
Thread: Weird California...
Some of you net folks may know about a website called Weird US.com, which is sort of a compendium of weird roadside attractions, supposedly-haunted places, and random odd abandoned things to go check out if you feel like something truly off-the-beaten-path.
One of the entries is here, a tiny desert town whose eccentric mayor (a retired children's author) has proclaimed the center of the world, complete with a plaque and a decorative pyramid. Apparently he makes his money selling a perfume named after his wife.
Anyone smelled it??? Or even know what it would be called?
I think we may have evidence of one of the world's most obscure perfumes...
Mimi gardenia; I emailed the site asking for the notes and cost of the fragrance. I will let you know when/if I receive it.
To quote: In 1987, now Mayor of Felicity, he appointed a century-old French firm to create the scent for the perfume, "Felicity ®."
I'd guess he probably used Molinard or one of the other old Grasse houses? Back in 1987, pre-internet, you'd have know someone who had been to Grasse as a tourist to even know that there were companies that would design a perfume for you, so it's likely that he would have ended up with one of the houses that's open for tourism.
It's probably a safe bet that he's still selling his original 1987 stock, too...
