Question Looking for an elegant day wear suggestion

I easily get headaches with fragrance, I need something Fresh, Elegant and which can't be found on every third man in the street. Any advice?

I find Millésime Impérial to be fresh, elegant and somewhat aquatic. Silver Mountain Water would also be an option because I find it similar in style to MI. Fruity? Maybe a little but I mainly get aquatic vibes from MI, SMW and Erolfa. Erolfa however has almost zero sillage or longevity for me.

Funny, I find Habit Rouge EDT very heavy.

I think Chanel pour Monsieur would fit it much better.
Loewe pour homme is also great, and is rarely talked about.

Do you have a Perfumemania, Perfume Max, etc nearby? Those type of stores usually carry HR.

I agree. While I certainly feel it is elegant, it comes across heavy to me.

On me, the Habit Rouge eau de toilette is light. The EDP and parfum, OTOH, are much heavier. I guess it is all in the nose of the wearer.

Love HR, but some find this light and some find it heavy. I think it's a bit off the path for Esquire. It is certainly elegant and now through not being a mainstream contemporary best seller, highly distinctive.

I think Millesime Imperiale might be more on target. It has an infamous melon note at the top, but the overall experience of wearing it is more aquatic than fruity.

Recalling some earlier threads though, HR is something that should be on Esquire's sample list.
Sorry your locale isn't conducive to in store sample, Esquire. You should bite the bullet and purchase some samples. Not sure what the best source for that in UK would be.

Not an aquatic, but the Amouage Dia Men suggestion above sounds good. Dia will not overwhelm in any condition.

Chanel Pour Monsig. is an excellent call, and if a bit widely available. GIT works, and though I like MI, lately, I have smelled more aquatic than melon in it. When it was more melon, I really thought it different, but now, it seems more aquatic and thus, more mainstream. Certainly well liked and inoffensive, but not as much elegant as maybe appropriate. Tiffany for Men works

Tiffany for Men is excellent. Better than CPM to me. Both developed by the same nose I believe.

Elegant is an understatement for this one.

Prada Infusion D'Homme - The ultimate clean scent IMO!
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver - I'm not usually a fan of vetiver based frags but this one behaves pretty well. Clean, Discreet, and lasts forever (discreetly!)
Acqua Di Parma Colonia Assoluta - Nice and clean, slightly spicy, slightly citrusy, little bit of green thrown in for good measure! Lasts a long time.

    Good luck!

Good suggestion. Richard James EDT is not really a light scent, but pleasant and attractive. It strikes me as a floral spice. Very elegant and long-lasting.

It boasts a "clean shirt accord."

I must side with those who suggest Habit Rouge. My favorite is the EDP version now called Habit Rouge Beau Cavalier (special edition) but, I think it is marketed simply as Habit Rouge, EDP in Europe. This is a fragrance of distinction suitable for a gentleman.

+2 Pour Monsieur. The consensus seems to be that it's BN's most agreed-upon all-occasions men's fragrance. I'm a relative newcomer to it, having owned a bottle for only a month or so. And yes, the BN crowd is correct, as always. Works very well in almost any situation - especially day wear. Reasonably priced, too.

Acqua di Parma Colonia: an essential component of any well-rounded collection, but not quite as versatile as PM. It strikes me as a classic eau - nice for a light touch up, but not really something you wear all day long.

Acqua di Parma Colonia and (even better, I think,) Colonia Assoluta are very well-made elegant takes on the eau de Cologne theme. Have a look art the reviews here and here. Some other suggestions for fresh (though not banal), elegant, and unlikely to cause headaches:

    Eau de Guerlain

    L'Eau Neuve
    Baldessarini
    Encre Noire
    Fou d'Absinthe
    Jazz
    Monsieur Balmain
    Sel de Vetiver
    Fleurs de Sel

    Annick Goutal Vétiver
    Cuir Pleine Fleur,
and especially L'Homme de Coeur and Iris Bleu Gris

Elegant and daywear appropriate is a real balancing act, I think. Elegance doesn't explicitly say evening but is often associated with it. 99% of the American orthodox career guides, articles, books, etc. are going to recommend no fragrance. A few will say "light" scents or something. From my interpretation that pigeonholes you into the simple fresh, green, aquatic, citrusy & "pure" wood categories with projections of 6 inches around you. Avoid or be very careful with anything complicated that has animalic base notes (including too much ambergris) or too much vanilla or too much sandalwood.

I LOVE Creed's Millesime Imperial. Heck I wear it at work...but that's because the company belongs to me. If I were a corporate drone, would I? Maybe, if I could restrain the projection within 1-3 inches. Here's my suggestion:

    Vetiver, Guerlain

    If you're really edgy:

    Bois d'Encens, Armani Prive

(if you like the above but want something similar and a LOT cheaper try this)

    Tommy Bahama (for men).

I leaned toward woodsy notes since, perhaps due to my lack of experience, I could not think of an elegant aquatic or citrus.

Keep the notes uncomplicated and avoid animalics & overt vanillas, ambers, & sandalwood.
