Default What body wash/soap do you use as a blank canvas?

    Hi all,

New member here. I love different scents (obviously, since I have found this place) and I was wondering what body washes/soaps do you use in the shower to serve as a blank canvas. I ask because I don't like to have conflicting scents.

    Welcome to Basenotes!

I use all types of scented body washes. They never conflict with my fragrance.

I'm a fan of the Old Spice 3X Fresh. I suppose it has a bit of a fragrance to it, but it doesn't seem to conflict with anything.

The only scents that seem to conflict with fragrances would be a lot ofthe axe products since they seem to be stronger.
Imagine there were no hypothetical situations.

Interesting questions and answers. I've always used fragranced body washes and never thought they conflicted with my scents. Now, however, I'm having problems with the longevity of l'Artisan fragrances and I'm trying to find a way to make them last longer. I just ordered unfragranced body oil in hopes that using it will improve the longevity. Here's hoping!

    Welcome to Basenotes b0n3z !

I usually use unscented body washes...although, most scented body washes I've used in the past didn't seem to conflict with my SotD that much!

I've never had a problem with body washes conflicting, but someone once pointed out that they found when they used Dial body wash it reduced the smell of their fragrance afterward-- perhaps due to ingredients meant to suppress body odors.

That may help Zhi. I like L'Artisan, but I always find them a bit lacking in longevity on me.

While not unscented, most soaps and body care products by Dove are pretty much neutral smelling and thus excellent for me as a blank canvas for any fragrance application, apart from not conflicting with perfumes from my fragrance wardrobe, they are also highly moisturizing, which may actually slightly increase the longevity of the fragrance

I use Dove unscented bar soap, which seems to work well. I've found that store brand shampoo and conditioner around here don't have much fragrance to them, regardless of how they are advertised. Works well for me. Still working on finding hair product that is low- or no-scent...

I use Dr. Bronner's Lavender Castile soap. It smells STRONG in the shower, but disappears almost immediately afterward. (For the record, I do not recommend it for its lavender smell...it's really a nasty lavender IMO...I just like it as a soap. It doesn't dry my skin.)

As others have said, as long as the soap isn't designed to have a strong scent (i.e. Axe or soap flankers that come with many designer and niche scents), you should be OK.

An unscented body LOTION will do more to improve the performance of your scents than any change in soap will.

I specifically avoid Dove products as they are particularly notorious for animal testing.

I just use a lightly scented soap and an unscented deodorant.

When I can't find a bodywash that matches the fragrance (i.e. Silver Mountain Water bodywash) I will experiment to see if it works with the scent (i.e. SMW bodywash works with Millesime Imperial). Otherwise I stick to Dove OR a pure unscented glycerin bar.

As much as one invests their money & efforts into a fragrance, it makes sense not to muck it up with something else.

I just use generic shower gels as their scent usually dies down after 5 mins or so, but i tend to avoid heavily scented body showers.

I use safeguard, which is anti-microbial and anti-bacterial.
Very popular soap in my gym.

Dove unscented for sensitive skin. I have eczema. I'll echo that unilever (dove) and Proctor and Gamble both do animal testing. Tom's of main and other sensitive skin soaps gives me eczema too making cruelty free less inviting.

i use Lever 2000. but don't take my advice because i get sh*t longevity.

think i'll switch to Dove unscented.

I am a big fan of Old Spice Aqua Reef body wash right now. It says it has 8 hour scent technology on the label. I find it is one of the few bodywashes I can smell faintly on my skin hours after getting out of the shower.

I second any Dr Bronner's product for a good honest clean. I've used the Baby, Peppermint, Tea Tree, and Almond varieties. So far the Almond is my fave! Smells great in the shower and then fades quickly once you're dried off.
