Default How old is this Eau Sauvage 30ml bottle?

Could someone more knowledgeable than myself please help me to put an approximate date on this bottle of Eau Sauavge? Many thanks!

I have a Miss Dior in the exact same design,
and I've always thought it to be early 70s, I
guess the same could be said about yours?!

    What do you guys think?!

certainly not earlier, but perhaps later.

I remember one like that in the early 80's. Maybe '82 at best guess, though it could have been anytime between '80 and '83.

what about the same bottles but thicker, with a smaller silver cap. i would like to know whether they are older or newer than the bottle pictured above, or perhaps they are from the same period?

ps. does anyone know when dior did stop making those older, oval shaped bottles? i mean the ones with a band around them and a small plain cap, i think they where only available as splash, no spray.

80s?! Really? But the flacons (Miss Dior, Dioressence, Diorella) are soooold school looking!

i agree with that, the design looks rather like it was made in the seventies. but i do think these bottles where still around for a decade or so.

i know of 4 different types. this one, the one with the silver cap (picture in the basenotes directory, was this the first?) then the glass with the vertical lines but still the old sticker (this bottle came with two different caps, orange brown and silver) and finally the silver wrap instead of the sticker. (a little after that, they introduced a new box design as well.)

I have an old spray of Eau Sauvage deodorant that looks exactly the same. Could be older but it was still available in the late 80s.

yes, if it was properly stored (in the box, away from light) for all these years. otherwise, make sure you smell it before you buy it. and don't buy it if the juice is darker than it should be.

I have a men's style book copyright '99 that shows this bottle. It also has older bottle design shown for Guerlain Vetiver. They could have used older photos though, I dunno.

i think i know this book, it's called something like 'the gentleman', right? they show a bunch of after shaves, not a bad selection at all by the way, all the bottles are from some decades ago.

You mean like this one (from my swap list)? I've been told that it's from mid 80's at the earliest, and mid-90's at the latest...anyone?

Yes that's the box. I just bought a sealed one of those in EDT form and I hope it's still good - waiting for it arrive. I'm wondering how different it is from today's version. I don't get any cumin/ sweat from the new version at all .

Oh how the mighty have fallen...the new Eau Sauvage is good for about 15 minutes but then turns to wool on me. The old version, however, lasts the whole day, and is a fantastic skanky, rough, citric affair.

The new ES, though a very good citrus frag on its own merits, is still a really poor shadow of the vintage. To my nose the two versions smell alike but with a lot of difference (less cumin for one in the new).

I bought the bottle in the picture in 1984 and remember that there was the regular shaped bottle as well on the shelf. Bought the narrow bottle out of curiosity, as i still had some of the old. I guess CD was experimenting on packaging for different markets. No difference in smell/composition though.

I bought the same bottle (1st pic) last year from an online retailer at a very low price. I think the design may be 80's but not the juice inside. These bottles must have been in production for many many years. There was no point in updating them since they stopped selling 30ml of Eau de Toilette (or not?) but they still use them in box/gift sets, as seen here.

I had a bottle like that around 1987 or so.

I got my vintage Eau Sauvage this morning - it DOES smell somewhat different- there is that touch of cumin ! It's very good - quite similar still to the latest version . Juice color is yellow compared to the new stuff. I think the latest version is brighter. Both are excellent and worth it.
