    mimi, thanks for answering.

I have read about Montale's Vanilla Absolu and I also think it could be a good candidate for my vanilla-cookie sweet tooth !
But I have to wait to go to Paris in order to try it, as there is no Montale's retailer here in Belgium !

    I don't know Micallef's Note Vanillée : what is it like ?

Oh I forgot to say ,Miss Angelica- sorry to be rude for not welcoming you with my first post- Welcome to basenotes ! I hope you have fun here !
Vanilla Absolu is pure vanilla and a little smoke. Tihota is excellent too though expensive ,yes,- maybe a decant will be enough as it lasts and lasts.

    Mimi, it's not a matter, I swear !
You have not been rude AT ALL !

What about this little smoke, I think I got it with Serge Lutens' Bois Vanille : the perfect winter vanilla.

Tihota, why damn is your price so high ?!

    Welcome to Basenotes, Angelica!

There are so many good suggestions on this thread, give the ones that look up your alley and the ones that are available a try, please.

Last autumn I was in a similar situation: knowing that the long, cold and hard winter was upon us I wanted something comfortable, tasty and vanillic. It took me quite a lot of samples to figure out what I craved for -- Pink Sugar to Il Profumo Vanille Bourbon. My favorites, however, were:
    -- Hanae Mori EdT (aka Pink Butterfly) -- fruity, girly, summery vanilla;
    -- Laurence Dumont Vanille Orientalle (the whole line was sold at Sephora stores two summers ago for a song, and I did not stock up, now I literally have to pay for it!), there are other edible vanillas in their lineup, one being Vanille Chocolate and another being Vanilla Bourbon, they are not very simplistic and some are quite nice;
    -- Fragonard Vanilla -- spicy, sexy, edgey vanilla;
-- CSP Vanille Absolute -- simple, but unadultered vanilla and nothing else.

    Good luck!

Hi, Angelica, and welcome to Basenotes!
I think that BBW Warm Vanilla Sugar could fit your bill, it's a foody sweet vanilla to me. on my skin it smells like a cubed sugar with vanilla extract poured on. By my skin tends to make smells sweeter.

Definitely check out either Acqua di Parma's Mandorlo di Sicilia or Lostmarch's Lann-Ael. They both smell very similar, *very* sweet gourmand vanilla.

linds, and thanks for your answer.

There is a store called "Senteurs d'Ailleurs" in Brussels, where they sell niche parfums : I can try Mandorlo di Sicilia there.
    Mmm, sugary almond + sugary vanilla = vanilla-almond cookkie = delicious !

What about Lostmarch, I have to inform myself where it is available.
I have always loved the smell of cereals, so I'm quite interested by this one.
I hope the apple note is not too strong though, because it may overpower the vanilla.

twolf, thanks for answering and welcoming me.

I know HM (butterfly) : delicious perfume, but I don't find it to be the plain, straight-up vanilla I want. Foody gourmand fragrance though ! ^^

Once upon a time , it was possible to buy Laurence Dumont's creations in Carrefour supermarckets : I have to check whether it is always the case .... or not.
I would have liked so much to try her "Chocolat Blanc" but it had alerady been discontinued.
What about her "Vanille Chocolat", I'm afraid it has the same patchouli note as Angel : I can't stand patchouli, really !

I'm writing down your suggestion for Fragonard's vanilla.

What about Vanilla Absolu, are you talking about Montale's one ? Because Vanilla Absolu is from Montale. CSP do have kinda vanilla absolute but it's called "Vanille Extrême".

    Thanks.

My favorite vanilla is Ayala Moriel's Immortelle L'Amour, which is supposed to smell like french toast with maple syrup. I'm not sure that it does, but it certainly smells tasty.
I own both of these and agree..Tihota is a vanilla lover's vanilla, but VERY expensive. Immortelle L'Amour is not really vanilla, though I adore it. It does smell just like a perfumeur's version of maple syrup.

I LOVE Jalaine's Vanilla, though it does not last long. Sweet and buttery. Just plain yummy. Montale's Vanille Absolu is a pretty straight up vanilla, and though expensive, it is no where near as pricey as Tihota.

Another yummy, and straight up, vanilla is IPDF's (I Profumi di Firenze) Vaniglia del Madagascar. Deelish.
I have not been awfully impressed with La Maison de la Vanille's products. They smell too synthetic to me.
Laurence Dumont's products were mentioned, and I once owned their Vanilla Bourbon. It was a wonderful, very foody, take on vanilla and I'm now sorry that it's no longer in my possession.
What!? Ava Luxe is discontinuing many fragrances! What a tragedy! I let a friend borrow Turkish Vanilla and haven't seen it in months!
I agree that Love's True Bluish Light has a predominant vanilla note. I don't find it quite as edible as many of the other suggestions, however. Still, it's wonderful!

+1 for Tihota .... and its so cruel price !!

Ok, I memorize : "Immortelle L'Amour" = maple syrup (which is a thing we don't know much here in Europe though ! ) ! ^^

I read about Jalaine's Vanilla and I could be interested by this one.
But, as you are talking me about its poor lasting power, I should maybe revise my list.

I agree with you about Montale's prices : even if they are not cheap at all , they remain kinda affordable compared to Indult's ones !
But do you find Montale's VA to be as foody and sugary as Tihota ?

    Thanks.

+1 for LD's Bourbon Vanilla : I'm gonna go to Carrefour supermarket or phone them in order to know if these fragrance are available in their stores.
What about its lasting power ?

I have also read a lot about AL's fragrances and picked up some names which could interest me :

    - Turkish Vanilla
    - LTBL
    - Milk
    - Amande Sucrée
    - Café Noir

But AL seems to become very rare to find so maybe it's better for me to do not investigate in this direction.

I would have immediately pointed you to La Maison de la Vanille, but you say you tried them and didn't find them special. I think they must be the nicest 'edible' vanilla perfumes I've come across.

The vanilla sugar smell you describe is often based on vanillin (which is one of the chemicals in natural vanilla that creates that distinctive smell). You might therefore be almost better off going for the more synthetic ones (ironically!) - like The Body Shop and Bath and Body Works! Also if you can get hold of Yves Rocher products, they do a fabulous, extremely cheap vanilla perfume you might really like! I've always liked them for fun scents

For more of a vanilla bean smell, with everything in (including the slightly smoky characteristics), you should try the Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille, Serge Lutens vanilla scent and Lush Vanillary. (The latter is made by my boss Simon Constantine and he's very good with vanillas! He put in a lot of floral notes too, but the end result smells extremely foody. There's also a matching body lotion made with cocoa butter, so you can smell completely edible...).

Please report back on what you've discovered! Welcome to Basenotes.

P.S. For a very 'foody' sweet smell, try Pleasures Delight by Estee Lauder. It smells like strawberry pudding and vanilla cream cakes...

Hi Pia, nice to see you here
Second the cheap Yves Rocher versions cos of vanillin and/or maltols. The only drawback ime is that on some skin chemistry they can go plastic-y/play dough. I also agree that Lush's Vanillary it's really nice, but I wouldn't describe it as foody as to my nose it's really heavy on jasmine and ylang ylang.

I was very impressed by Montale Vanilla Absolue: an almost fluffy vanilla, which is long lasting as well. Worth checking out!

My personal fave has been Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille. It also has some woody notes and coconut. It's quieter than Montale's and not so long-lasting.

You can also check the Lavanila scents at Sephora. They had a series of three, I think. I liked the one with the coconut.

    Hello Irina!

Yeah, I think her best bet is the Yves Rocher/Body Shop stuff really, for the kind of cookie/sugar effect she's describing.

The foodiest I have found so far is Hermessence Ambre Narguile. It smells like apfel strudel with vanilla sauce. Not pure vanilla but certainly highly "edible". :-)

    Good luck with your quest!

    bonsai, thanks for your answer.

I had a sample of HN but I don't find it special at all : oriental but neither foody nor really vanillic. I expected dried fruits notes and rich vanilla : I was deceived by this one. Moreover, neither the sillage nor the lasting power were impressive.

Thanks for your wishes : it's like the HG search ! :-D

Hi Miss Angelica -welcome to Basenotes!

Have you tried Keiko Mecheri's Loukhoum? Admittedly, there is more going on than just vanilla and sugar (almonds, rose, some amber...) but it's hands-down the yummiest most delicious fragrance I've ever experienced, and it lasts for hours and hours! Although I love them when they work, I don't have many gourmands in my wardrobe - with Loukhoum around I just don't need many others. This absolutely checks all my boxes for sugary sweet and comforting yumminess. I love it so much I could drink it.

    +1 for Montale's Vanille Absolu.
    Does it have sillage ?

I know really good Bois Vanille : I love it ! Such a warm, rich, cozy, wrapping vanilla : perfect for winter, as I said here above.
But not really the sweet tooth-vanilla I want : in some way, I would say that it lacks sugar and foody-cookie notes to satisfy my sweet tooth !

I don't know the Lavanila scents.
Visiting thier website, I read about the Vanilla-Coconut fragrance you are talking about (could be interesting as I also love coconut but I'm afraid because of the Tiaré flower) and about their Pure Vanilla scent (but they are themselves explaining that it tends to be more "vanilla-bean" than "vanilla-cookie" ).

I admit La Maison de la Vanille's scents are welll-made fragrances but I don't find them edible, gourmand or sweet. More vanilla-pod tham vanilla cookie.

Yes, it's funny : many people want to avoid vanillin while I wanna smell like vanillin !
The only matter with "cheap" vanillas is that, when not well-made, they can be plasticky. And the lasting power can also be a problem.

Ok, +1 for YR, TBS and BBW vanillas !

I know and love SDV and Bois Vanille. But they kinda lack sugar and cookie notes to satisfy my sweet tooth. Both masterpieces though !

What about Lush Vanillary, due to the floral notes, likely that I'm not gonna like it.

I will give a try to Pleasures Delight the next time I go to the mall : it seems to be yummy !

Of course, I'm gonna keep you all updated through this thread !

Yes we live nearby Well it depends. Instead of buying samples of those expensive niche fragrances you could spend less on some nice perfume materials and have some fun But I guess I'm the creative type The long lasting stuff is a trick mostly by adding the right solvents, some fixative and/or aldehydes. Most vanilla materials are base notes anyways so they are long lasting by making. If you spray some on your clothes fragrance can last even longer and doesn't morph as much as on skin.
It could be as simple as diluting some vanilla absolute in a bit of alcohol and spray it on It doesn't have to be a piece of art if it just smells good to/on you

evangeline, and thanks for your answer.

    I don't know KM's Loukhoum.
But, in the "oriental pastry' category, I tried SL Rahät Loukoum and ontale's Sweet Oriental Dreams.
RL is way too light : I had to literally aspire my wrist to smell someting. And it's not as sweet as it seems to be. It is soft but not sweet. And nearly transparent. I could not smell the cherry note and the vanilla was sooooo weak ! No sillage and no lasting power.... This one has been such a disappointment to me.
SOD is too floral : the rose note overpowers all the sweet notes. Again, even if less than RL because of the nearly cloying rose note, it is soft but not sweet. And, again, the sillage and the lasting power are not impressive.

But, when it will be possible for me (KM's creations are not available in Belgium), I'm gonna give a try to Loukhoum, why not !
