Default You have just been hired to be a male fragrance consultant......

You are given the corporate credit card, and given the simple instructions to come up with 5 men's fragrances for your 30yr old single, professional client - price is not an object. The objective IS to construct a well rounded collection, however you define that (ex. seasons, occasions, type <floral, woody, etc.>.)

For the sake of simplicity, let's assume your client miraculously has the exact same body chemistry/reaction with said fragrances that you do.

    YSL M7
    AdP Colonia
    Gucci Envy
    YSL Rive Gauche pour Homme
Gucci pour Homme II (would probably have gone for Bulgari pour Homme, but it reacts really badly on me)

covers for office, casual, formal and date wear (in fact most of the scents can be used for 2 or more of those situations)
    covers all the seasons
most of the scents are fairly idiot proof (except perhaps over applying M7)

I was tempted to add some niche scents, but the designer ones are much more foolproof, so I guess I didn't take advantage of the 'money is no object', and I'll get derided for being too mainstream, but whatever.

If the costs were no issue, here is what I would pick:

Opus 1870 by Penhaligons- while by far not as famous, as the legendary Hammam Bouquet or Blenheim Bouquet from the same house, this fragrance is balanced, persistent yet understated, just suitable for work-related occasions and particularly office wear
Chanel pour Monsieur-the elegance of this classic is flawless, its style timeless and, in addition to that, it does exude a certain very subtle, nearly imperceptible sensuality
Opium Eau d'Orient by YSL- this limited edition flanker has a certain class other Oriental frags are unlikely to achieve
Esencia Loewe- a very versatile and manly fragrance of the darker sort, but only recommendable if the wearer has no reluctance in wearing strong, boozy and slightly overpowering frags
Burberry London for Men- modern enough to be suitable for more informal occasions, yet complex and distinguished enough to be considered a more contemporary interpretation of the classic British gentleman image

    Amouage Gold : floral aldehyde
    (Formal wear)

Musc Ravageur : Gourmand vanilla + musk + cinnamon
    (Romantic wear)

Black Aoud : Rosy Oud with patchouli
    (Night wear)

L'air du desert Marocain : Spicy Oriental Amber, very well blended.
    (Daily wear)

    YSL Kouros : ... <no description available>
    (all day,night, any seasons)

Now wheres my consulting fee ?

    OK, then!

    Vintage Mysore Essential Oil
Denhal Oud bought from a little old man on a side street somewhere in Medina
    Hove Vetiver
    Habanita
    Attar of Roses (damascena)

Mix n' Match, layer at whim for any occasion or mood life throws at you!

And if the same company wants my services for the women's counter, add a mess of Jasmine absolute. (We need 6 because of the extra chromosome and stuff).

    OK, let's see..

Paul Smith Extreme- Bergamont/Sandalwood, very sophisticated citrus/woods combo IMO.
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver- If ya gotta get a vetiver,.....
Givenchy Blue Label- Great aquatic, not as played out as Cool Water.
Canali for Men- Wonderful citrus leather.
Corduroy by Zirh- Tough pick, since it's dirt cheap, but a nice spicy scent.

I'd probably pick different ones if you asked me later.

IMHO, the question is a non-starter.

Fragrance choice is a personal thing. It is so contingent on personality, lifestyle and environment that it makes no sense to pick out 5 fragrances and decide that they would be the ideal choice for some generic "30-year-old professional".

With the words "corporate" in the original post, I imagine men in suits and ties--white shirts only with cufflinks, and collar stays. All of these can be worn for work. I don't believe that good scents need to be expensive to smell nice and only one on this list tops $200 per bottle.

    1. Mouchoir de Monsieur - clean and fresh lavender citrus, with touch of civet.
    2. Derby - a wonderful, crisp jasmine with leather.
    3. Equipage - floral fougere.
    4. Le Troisieme Homme - clean and floral.
    5. Richard James EDT - a floral spice scent that can be worn in the evening.

I'd also throw in Habit Rouge EDT for any occasion. This can be had online at discount.
