Parfums de Nicolai fragrances are reasonably priced IMO.

Is Les Nereides considered 'niche'? Anyway, in particular their Imperial Opoponax is incredible value for your money. Musc Samarkand or Patchouli Antique are nice (not rocking my world, though), too.

    + 1 PdN.

    Also check out:

    Parfum d'Empire
Etat Libre d'Orange (I'm currently very fascinated with them. I think they hiked their prices recently, sadly. But I would still consider them to be relatively affordable.)

Sonoma Scent Studio has good prices for excellent fragrances. 17ml & 34ml bottles are available. I picked up a 17ml Winter Woods for barely over $30 and a little goes a LONG WAY.

L'Erbolario is pretty inexpensive. China is fabulous - it's like Costes meets Penhaligon's Elixir + a bit a naughty.

+1. They are in EDP concentration. 2 sprays of Ambre Russe suffice for the whole day. A 100 ml bottle of Parfum d'Empire is probably equivalent to 200 or 300 ml of an EdT with average longevity and sillage.

You can often get 100 ml bottles of the better Etro frags on ebay for great prices, or sometimes you find them on online discounter sites for low prices as well.

Molinard and Fragonard. The above mentions of Patricia de Nicolai's stuff are good advice too.

    Parfum d'Empire is $75 for 50 ml.

Etat Libre d'Orange is $80 for 50 ml.

Ineke is $88 for 75 ml.

As much as I adore Caron (Montaigne, Aimez-Moi, Poivre, Pour Un Homme, Le Troisieme Homme), I would not consider them a niche house--more like an established, large perfume house like Guerlain. Some scents from Caron are inexpensive, some are very expensive. The urn scents are very exclusive.
