Low-key yet everpresent... C&S Frankincense & Myrrh
Thread: Name your best incense cologne.
Low-key yet everpresent... C&S Frankincense & Myrrh
lol this thread should be titled "Avignon, the best incense cologne" as far as I'm concerned.
For what it's worth, I feel it's necessary to mention that Around Midnight, by Mark Buxton (the creator of Avignon) smells like a perfected version of Avignon. Granted, it was after all, released after Avignon.
Around Midnight smells like a more rounded, more wearable and more sensual version of Avignon. Whereas Avignon is stark, dry and a bit too sharp, Around Midnight pulls all the right moves, and smells mysterious, austere and yet still wearable.
Gucci pour Homme
++++etc. for Avignon
Let Me Play the Lion
Passage d' Enfer
Pure Oud by Killian (is this an incense?)
Gucci PH I

Avignon, naturally. Kyoto is also nice. All the CdG series entries are stellar. (I might be beating a dead horse around here with that comment, but it's well-deserved, no?)
Also, Gucci PH was a good call above. Didn't think of that one. CL Tumulte is a good choice too, despite no incense. Does Envy have any incense in it or am I just thinking it did?
Really liked Passage D'Enfer in the warmer spring/summer months. Maybe the best non-CdG choice for incense.
Yeah, just go with anything from CdG. Start with Avignon. It's been spelled out here. Again.
"Flagrantly fragrant and they can't escape me. My perfume pursued them everywhere that they went.
You don't want a loan, leave my cologne alone. It's a little too strong for you to be putting on".

Glad to see some love for the underrated gem, Signature pour Homme by ST Dupont. Boozy, inky incense - it caught me by surprise. +3 on this.
Three that I love:
Armani Prive - Bois d'Encens.
Comme de Garcons - Quarzazate
Incense delle India - A mystery decant that was part of a lot on ebay. I haven't been able to find any info on this one, but I would love to have a full bottle of it.
Amouage Jubilation XXV
But for more everyday use: Comme des Garçons Zagorsk
Another vote for Kytoto. If you're looking for a cheaper frag then let's try Tommy Bahama.
Current Top 5
1. Creed Aventus
2. A*Men Pure Malt
3. L'instant Extreme
4. Nasomatto Duro
5. CDG - Kyoto
Another vote for Kyoto.
Incense Pure - Sonoma Scent Studio. A little surprised no one's mentioned this one.
Me three for C&S's Frankincense & Myrrh! Not really an incense fan and this frag is light and pleasant enough that I can enjoy it all day without feeling overpowered.
I'll ask the gardeners what they call / the many flowers, so that in the small crocks /
of their lovely proper names I can bring back / remnants of the hundred fragrances.

What!!! No bois d'armenie??

Bois d'Encens, Armani Prive
If I have to choose only one, it would certainly be Messe de Minuit.

"Nothing breaks up a team faster than.. Herpes"
-- Top --
(1) Guerlain Tonka Imperiale (2) Creed Millesime Imperial
(3) Creed Silver Mountain Water (4) Creed Aventus
(5) Creed Green Irish Tweed (6) Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt
(7) Amouage Reflection Man
These days, the most direct approach is not always the most budget-friendly, but in this case it so is!
If you're curious about how this scent will "do" on your skin, or if you totally know you love it, but are temporarily or perpetually funding-challenged, olibanum essential oil can be obtained for a very modest sum...
One man's conspiracy is another man's business plan
Avignon by CdG , perfect incense , followed closely by Bois d'Encens which is slightly lighter and fresher . both fantastic fragrances !!
Bijan Men - although the gorgeous incense accord is actually an impression for the fragrance does not contain incense oil.
Actually, the original Aramis may not have "incense" officially listed as a basenote, but it definitely has a smoky, inside-of-a-church flavour to it.
I see no love here for my favorite from the CdG series, Quarzazate. I wonder why..
Norma Kamali – Incense
Annayake Miyako - very true rendition of Japanese temple incense.
Whoops I forgot to mention Andy Warhol Silver Factory by Bond no. 9. It smells like Indian temple incense with a touch of castoreum and vanilla. I don't know what the deal is with the name.... it smells nothing like anything I would ever associate with Andy Warhol.
Another vote for Wazamba.
+1 Heeley Cardinal
+2 for the Avignon love-fest going on here (husband's favorite, and one of mine, too)
Will try Kyoto based on the recommendations here, but I can't say I'm an incense fan. When I do want one, I reach for something safe like LDDM.
Bond no 9 Silver Factory
Tom Ford Japon Noir
A +1 for Un Parfum des Sens et Bois by The Different Company!
Mark Buxton - Around Midnight
Gold - Christian Dior Fahreheit Absolute
Silver - Gucci Envy for men
Bronze - YSL Body Kouros
it's not a cologne technically but Amouage Tribute attar has the best, cleanest, most uplifting frankincense note ever.
Im 40 years late but here it is... JubilationXXV
I love incense perfumes, and one that has not been mentioned is one of my favorites, Incense Oud by Kilian
I find Comme des Garçons Zagorsk very zen.
Balsamo della Mecca (La Via del Profumo)
'Mecca Balsam' made by Dominique Dubrana (check out his Basenotes Social Group).
Gucci Rush for Men. Sadly discontinued, but infinitely richer and more complex than Incense Avignon.
L´Artisan Parfumeur - Passage d´Enfer, resinous piney franckincense and lily
Comme des garcons - Avignon, pure liturgical, ritual franckincense
Annick Goutal - Encens flamboyant, smokey tarry cool franckincense with sappy cedar
COmme des Garcons - Artek / Standard, cold rusty, metallic incense
Norma Kamali - incense, wow incense
Profumun - Olibanum, fresh and smoky franckincense
Olivier Durbano - Rock Crystal, fresh, cedary franckincense
Olivier Durbano - Black Tourmaline, dark heavy franckincense
These are my favourites

Annick Goutal - Ambre Fetiche
Annick Goutal - Encense Flamboyant
Andy Tauer - L'air du desert Marocain
I don't have a signature fragrance. My signature changes every day, why shouldn't my fragrance?

Creed Angelique Encens. So beautiful. Too bad it's so hard to find.
In my wardrobe - none I am aware of, but on the bright side, I might need to focus on sampling, testing, discovering, purchasing, collecting more incense scents
