Thread: Name your best incense cologne.
Name an incense cologne that you think is the best!
Avignon (Series 3: Incense) by Comme des Garcons
Be prepared for a bunch of wildly different responses on this thread.
For straight up incense, Kyoto by CDG.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?
I don't like heavy incense in cologne, but a light touch is cool. Case in point: Hummer H2.
Aedes de Venustas
Gucci Pour Homme I
Le Labo Vetiver 46
Eau des Baux by L'Occitane en Provence. A cypress incense with a base of vanilla.
"No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this." Desert Rose by Sting and Cheb Mami, Album 1999.
In my wardrobe, Signature by S.T. Dupont is my favorite use of the incense note (subtle and very well done), followed closely by Nemo by Cacheral and Visit by Azzaro. Bogart Citytower by Jacques Bogart also makes fairly good use of incense (in this case, as a dominant note).

Messe de Minuit..Etro. Incense accords abound in this fragrance. From top to bottom.
Don't panic. Just stay calm, and reload....
M7 and Cologne pour le Soir
I have to admit that Avignon is pretty amazing too, but it's just a bit too austere for me.
+ 1 on the CDG Avignon.
Let Me Play the Lion
Although I rate Bois de Turquie, Jubilation XXV, and Epic Man up there as well.
I own all the CdG Incense series except Avignon, which I find too luxurious. I like 'em lean and mean. Really resinous. Hauntingly austere.
Here's a couple of great ones:
Olibanum by Profumum
Incenso by I Profumi di Firenze
"The force that through the green fuse drives the flower // drives my green age..." Dylan Thomas
I thought that responses in this thread would mostly contain Amouage, as I think no one does Incense better than them.
It appears that a lot of fellow basenoters don't share my views :-(
I really enjoyed Incense Extreme and Incense Rose by Tauer, but I felt they were a little too much after a few hours wear. Rose has a slight animalic tinge that keeps it interesting.
2 Man and Tumulte are my two favorite 'wearable' incenses.
Looking for: Andy Tauer - L'air du Desert Morocain & Incense Extreme

There are so many wonders in this category. Purely wonderful creations. I've shifted favorites/bests several times. Now I say it's between CdG Zagorsk and L'Artisan Parfumeur's Passage d'Enfer.
That girl, that bottle, that mattress and me.
There are many fine incense-rich fragrances to choose from, but Dia for Men and Dzongkha ar my current favorites.
Kyoto by Comme des Garcons.....Saks Fifth Avenue Pour Homme, West Side and Silver Factory by Bond No.9
I also wanted to add Bois d'Encens from The Armani Prive Collection
I like Avignon and Heeley's Cardinal, both essentially smell similar, albeit slightly synthetic, to actual raw frankincense tears from Somalia.
I also really like L'Occitane's Eav Des Bavx, but it not a pure "incense" scent, more of a woody/spicy gourmand.
Another with an excellent frankincense note, a note which of all frankincense notes smells the most like true Omani Sacra resin, is the frankincense note in L'Artisan's Navegar.
gucci pour homme and visit by azzaro
"Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again.
For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a new Armenia."
Using: Antaeus, The Dreamer, Eau Sauvage and Voyage d Hermes
Wishing: Tuscan Soul by Ferragamo and Concentré d Orange Verte
One more vote for CDG Avignon; followed closely by YSL M7 (well, it's insense-ish) and then followed by Azzarro Visit.
A tie between Zagorsk and Avignon
some say bois du portugal is one of them if it is then that if not then body kouros
Timbuktu by L'Artisan.
Kyoto, Dzongkha, Encens Flamboyante & Epic Woman
My incense loves are on the designerish side of things. Gucci pour Homme and Signature pour Homme ( Sillage Monger, you have great taste, BTW)

Bond No.9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory.
I like Avignon and Kyoto, but I feel that they are pretty straightforward incense scents. For me, my favorite would be Idole.
Frankincense & Myrrh (1984)
by Czech & Speake
The absolute favorite (Incense-centric, not just featuring incense) from what I own: L'Air Du Desert Marocain.
Runner-up: Encens Flamboyant.
Amouage Epic man
I'm not a big fan of incense, if it's strong and dominant there's a very high chance I won't like it.
My favorite one would be: Body Kouros.
Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance.
Egoïste by Chanel
Reflection man by Amouage
Blackened, you get incense in Reflection Man?
Looking at the different answers, and very (extremely) different frags recommended, I will try to explain my point of view regarding INCENSE.
I believe there is a semantic problem when we speak about incense, as we understand incense in two different ways:
a: Incensy frags thar remind us of the oriental incense sticks burning, which has an array of different smells or feelings (from Nag Champa, to Sandalwood and patchouli sticks including traditional oriental resins such as myrrh)...these I call "generic incense" as the are evocative of these big category of various smells. I believe many frags replicate this effect: Kouros, Habit Rouge (vintage), Body Kouros, M7, Egoiste. This is very subjective and as wide as the different available incense sticks.
b: Frags containing a dominant (or at least very noticeable) note of frankincnese, the Boswellia sacra (or serrata o carterii) resin. This are most known as church or meditative incenses and when used solely are very austere and sometimes lemony-smoky. In this category there are also lots of good examples (specially in niche perfumery), but my personal favourite are:
Etro´s Messe de Minuit
Cdg Avignon, Zagorsk and Jaisalmer
Olivier Durbano´s Black Tourmaline and Rock Crystal
Miller et Bertaux #2 Spiritus / Land
L´Artisan Parfumeur Passage d´Enfer
Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant

Encens Flamboyant, Dzongkha, and Epic Man.
I don't know much about medicine, but I know what I like. -- S.J. Perelman
Lavender and Incense, Heavenly!
Another vote for L'ADDM
For an unusual use of an incense note, Diptyque's sadly discontinued L'Eau Trois, deserves mention. This had a great medicinal opening that featured myrrh. Pity that, like most Diptyque's, L'ET disappeared on me very quickly. I didn't buy a bottle then it went off the market.
Oooh! How can I forget Santal Noble?!!
I can certainly see all the love for avignon. I love it too but always thought kyoto was more wearable and natural smelling. Avignon is hard core incense at it's best. Smells like its straight from a temple or monastery. I forgot to include another high quality incense, Encens et Lavende.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?
So easy: CDG Avignon
wow, what more can I add? +1 to various recs including Avignon (Though I prefer Kyoto), +1 for remembering Gris Clair, +1 to Eau Des Baux, etc
NEW SPLIT - By Kilian A Taste of Heaven (full 50ml bottles). .
Most of the time I am very proud of the Basenotes community. Time after time I have witnessed the thoughtfulness, empathy & genuine friendship that members of this community extend to others - oldtimers & newcomers alike. There are other times, however, when egos get the upper hand and civility goes out the window. My philosophy is that I won't say anything here that I would not say if you were standing in front of me. Welcome to Basenotes, each and every one of us. ~ TwoRoads
