Smile How Long Does it Take to get Full Development of a Scent?

My question is how long does it take for a fragrance, once sprayed or applied, to move through the various stages - opening, mid notes, basenotes?

I am assuming that like most all of our discussions - it depends. Probably depends on the concentration of the scent, the individual's skin chemistry, etc. But does anyone have any thoughts or knowledge of this? Is there a standard?

In another thread I commented about Aventus, which I have been sampling - and it has been a good lesson in that I had not given it enough time to develop.

So the question is - how much time, and how will you know that you have moved through all the stages to know that you have sniffed the full complement of the scent?

There are no standards. Some scents whip through their development and disappear in under an hour while some will remain in "stasis" in one phase or another for hours. The rate and duration of development will vary with application, humidity, temperature, and perhaps most importantly, individual perception.

How do you know you've "sniffed the full complement of the scent?" When you can no longer smell it. I prefer multiple wearings in case I miss something the first time around.

It may take from a few minutes to several hours.
