Default Shalimar Ode de la Vanille Limited Edition to launch this year

I don't have a release date on this, but it's a Shalimar with vanilla.

Shalimar with Vanilla- Ode a la Vanille in new bottle Limited Edition

A unique composition of 2 types of vanilla Teinture de vanille from Mayotte
and Absolute de vanille from Madagascar. Created by Thierry Wasser and the bottle
    designed by Jade Jagger 50ml 1.7Fl.Oz 110.00

Thanks to the wonderful Guerlain boutique personnel at the Palazzo for this!

I had problems with some Guerlains and too much vanilla as in Oriental Brulant, Cuir Beluga and Chypre Fatale. I like the more subtle vanilla in Mouchoir, Shalimar and Habit Rouge.

I will have to try this.

This new Shalimar flanker sounds good as I enjoy vanilla. Unfortunately I have more faith in the bottle designer than in the perfumer. Mr. Wasser still has not hit one out of the park, as they say in baseball, IMO. I hope it will be widely distributed. Still better, I hope it is a success.

Now, see I would really like it if they would make a Shalimar spin-off with NO vanilla!

I guess they are hopping on the current "gourmand" fad.

Nick, although I am not a fan of some of Wasser's perfumes, Quand Vient la Pleuie is simply beautiful and I am enjoying his Cologne de Perfumeur.

A lot of people were not impressed with Guerlain Homme, but Asha gave me a sample of the more concentrated version (I can't recall what the name is "Guerlain Homme something or other) and it was very beautiful. Of course this is only my humble opinion and of course I liked Guerlain Homme the original anyway.

    OOOOOOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't.Wait.To.Try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WRT to Thierry Wasser's creations, I'm with Arwen Elf on Quand Vient la Pluie -- absolutely beautiful -- and I am loving Cologne du Parfumeur. The latter is a delight, IMO refreshing without being screechy or synthetic smelling, and is quite a departure for me as I favor mostly orientals and gourmands.

I saw a visual of this today... we can expect a lovely presentation of the Jade Jagger bottle in a rather special box. I'm on the waiting list... will be on counter here in Aus November 7th.
The notes accompanying the visual I've read mentions that the 'leather'(?) aspect has been reduced, and the 'gourmand' aspect amped up!

Yes. I like Shalimar very much indeed, but I find it extremely vanillic as it is and wouldn't want more of that particular note. Oh well, one lemming less!

Obviously, I'm aware that the creamy ethylvanillin is the star ingredient of Shalimar, but I have always associated it more with patchouli, opoponax, even clove. I immensely enjoyed Shalimar Light for making the vanilla itself stand more naked. I dream of a Shalimar with vanilla intensely highlighted, soft, strong and delectable.

Just came home from Paris and numerous visits to the Guerlain boutiques. And went home with Shalimar Ode à la Vanille. First of all, beautifully packaged! Then the scent: First impression is indeed a more gourmand Shalimar as advertised, unquestionably Shalimar but with a more luxurious and silky smooth, less musky feel. Also less powdery and funnily less sweet. Not as lush as Spiritueuse Double Vanille, but with the same kind of boozy-rich vanilla drydown, just in a drier form. And luckily, it's typical guerlinade-Guerlain, far removed from the L'Art et la Matière line's subtle and recherché "niche" scents - great job, Wasser! Wealthy in calories, this will be less everyday than classic Shalimar (which is good because there is only 50 ml there). More impressions will follow...

PS: Took a few pics in the shop, among them the standard one.
PPS: I was shown the new collector's edition of La Petite Robe Noire, a 1.5 litre version in the most exquisite heart-shaped stopper bottle and black satin presentation imaginable! But I couldn't take a picture of it

I finally got to try this today, the Guerlain boutique in Toronto had just got it in. I like it...def still Shalimar but somehow softer. The vanilla rounds the powdery accord but I'm not sure it is different enough for me to get it. I love Shalimar but don't wear it so I'm not sure if I'd wear this.

I had been sniffing all afternoon though so I will revisit it tomorrow when my nose is fresh. The box, bottle and presentation is LOVELY. I went in for Jicky edp...didn't get anything...we'll see tomorrow I guess!

Ode à la Vanille is quite faithful to the original's spirit, and I guess one has to really know and love every detail about the original to appreciate the difference. I'd even say it's recommended to sniff side-by-side in the beginning to get to know it. When I do that, I clearly sense how more pure and silky Ode's vanilla is, how much less musky it is, that is smells more in the direction of bitter chocolate, and that it's less powdery. One surely doesn't "need" it because it's not that different, that is, unless one is a Shalimar lover and collector

  43. #43

Default Re: Shalimar Ode de la Vanille Limited Edition to launch this year

New impressions from the drydown: Definitely more straight-out gourmand vanilla than original Shalimar. That swayingly musky vibe which otherwise defines Shalimar is significantly downplayed. Makes for an even more "wearable by men" Shalimar.

Is this the Shalimar in the bottle designed by Jade Jagger that is for sale exclusively at Harrod's? It doesn't say "Ode a la Vanille" on their web site. I would love to have a bottle of the vanilla variation so I hope it does get sole in the Guerlain boutiques as Harrod's can't export perfume and I'm in the States.

I tried this yesterday and couldn't see the point at first. The SA in Harrods told me that they had made it less smokey and powdery so I had a big old moan because those are the aspects of Shalimar that I love. Then the boozy vanilla dry down came through....................................I was hooked.

I'm hoping Harrods will let me order this by phone because it's not on their website. Any ideas whether it will have wider distribution in the UK?

I tried it yesterday at the Champs Elysee boutique - very nice. I found it to be very dry and spicier than the original. Too bad about the price as I would love to buy a bottle of it. As a footnote, I tried Le Dandy and I was very impressed. First impressions are that it's similar to Habit Rouge extrait.

I've been wearing my sample for a week now and think I have to own it. At $120 for 50ml of a LE I guess it just doesn't seem that bad to me? The presentation is sooo pretty and it's different enough from Shalimar.

Mr G it really DOES seem less musky, dusty and powdery than the original. It's so smooth and seamless, beautifully composed in my humble opinion. Elegant.

The "new" Shalimar is just perfect and was probably reformulated (maybe the formula was not changed but the materials seem to be of better quality)

Ode à la Vanille needs to be smelled attentively to perceive the differences with original Shalimar; the most noticeable differences are in the drydown: Ode is smoother but not sweeter and of course is more vanilla
