What are your favorite fragrances from the House of Annick Goutal? Please tell me what you like about your choices. I am buying more samples.

    Madragore.

I find this a great alternative to a AdP Colonia (or the more straight ahead citrus EDC approach) for summer. I also like the matte 'teaish' note in Duel, another one for warmer climates IMO.

Encens Flamboyant is a very nice incense - not too dry like some seem to be.

Eau de Monsieur has always been my favorite, but unfortunately it's been discontinued. I love it for its green, mossy base underneath a delightful citrus accord. I just feel so comfortable wearing it, and it just feels like it really suits me. I suspect I'm the only big fan of this scent on BN, since I've never seen another post about it.

Second place would be Eau du Sud, because of its bright Mediterranean feel.

    My husband likes Mandragore.

I wear La Violette, Ce Soir Ou Jamais, Des Lys, Rose Absolue, Eau d'Hadrien and Quel Amour! edp.

Of those, you may wish to try Rose Absolue if you like roses, and Eau d'Hadrien for citrus (but try to find old stock; Tania Sanchez wrote of the reformulated version that it is "far thinner—more lemon-scented dishwashing soap than lemon oil—and more floral than ever before" due to the IFRA restrictions on limonene, citronellal and oakmoss (Perfumes: The Guide Spring 2009). Another excellent fragrance altered for the worse.

Annick Goutal was one of the first niche houses, wasn't it? 1981's Eau D'Hadrien was a revolutionary fragrance - ground zero of the anti-fragrance movement. So has the house lived up to its early promises? Yes, yes, yes: Sables, Folavril, Vétiver, Eau du Fier, Heure Exquise, etc.

    Shamu1,
You`ll never walk alone on BN!

I LOVE Eau de Monsieur AG - mossy citrus with woody-honey immortelle absolute accent.

My other favs are Vetiver, Sables, Duel and Eau du Fier.

Eau de Ciel, Eau de Sud and Eau d'Hadrien. Sadly, they have almost no longevity on my skin. BTW @ moon_fish: The new Bulgari scent also has honey immortelle absolut in it.

My favorite is Encens Flamboyant, followed by Ambre Fetiche and Myrrhe Ardente.

I love the mistiness of Encens Flamboyant. I think it was in foetidus's review where he mentioned it having the effect of the steam that came from water being poured over hot coal. I cannot agree more with that description.

Ambre Fetiche is by no means the best amber out there, IMO, but it is a very very decent scent. A rather straight-forward amber that smells a little like biscuits or plain crackers.

Myrrhe Ardente reminds me of warm root-beer with an ambery base.

I have a penchant for Musc Nomade: warm, clean musk + amber with an almost candy-like top.

I like and own Ambre Fetiche. I like Sables as well, but would I wear it more than 2-3 times a year? Probably not.

(And I was thinking of starting a thread on this very subject yesterday!)

    Eau du Fier
    Ambre Fetiche
    Vetiver
    Eau du Sud

    None.

There's a house note that runs through most of the earlier creations that I really dislike. I did own Sables once but quickly grew tired of it (it was also one of the few scents that wore me and not the other way round). As for Les Orientalistes, I found them all too soft or fleeting to be FBW (although I did briefly possess Ambre Fetiche for a couple of days).

Eau D'hadrian - Reminds me of Rome. Also, makes me feel very comtemplative.
Eau de Ciel - Reminds me of a sweet kind lover I once had.

My favourite is Les Nuits d'Hadrien EDP, which is far better than the EDT. I also use Eau du Sud which has a lovely mint note in it, but I find Creed Selection Verte, followed by Royal Water just have the edge over this, although it's nice having all 3 as they are totally different and the Eau du Sud is also far cheaper.

    Eau d'Hadrien is wonderful.

I also like Duel for its iris/leather, but it does not last long on me at all.

Encens flamboyant, wonderful dry smoky resinous incense.

Ambre fetiche, excellent combination of amber-leather with incense undertones.

Duel, wow! fresh infusion of mate, tea, leather and orris....

Sables, curry-ish immortelle, dark and voluptuous

Eau de Fier, dark smoky lapsang souchong.

These are my favourite, and I dont find them fleeting at all. Specially EF and AF which last more than 24 hs on my skin.

They say that Annick Goutal's fragances aren't longlasting, is that true? some of them smell quite unique, but i don't want to waste my money on a short lived pleasure.

    My three favorites:

Eau du Fier - This is an impressive fragrance of piercing dark tar notes that mellow to dark smokey tea w/soft leather.
Ambre Fetische - a nice dark amber, very seductive.
Eau d' Hadrian - tart grapefruit drenched in lemon. After using a bottle of this one summer, I realized I prefer citrus with a bit of funk, wood, or earth in the base to balance them out. (cologne bigarrade, eau d' guerlain, eau d' orange vert, eau d sauvage, even E d' imperiale)

Up to Duel, AG was the EMBODIMENT of revolutionary niche. Extremely artful and unique. AG was god.
