    Default Canon of Frangrances

I have been interested in fragrances for a few years now, but I have only discovered this wonderful site in the past year or so. I have decided to post for the first time because I am looking for some assistance. I am looking for what people think are "classic" scents that a person interested in fragrances should know. By this I do not necessarily mean old fragrances. I am more thinking along the lines of a list of fragrances would be in a "canon of scents" much in the same way that there is a canon of western literature. We can obviously dispute what should be included, as such a list should be discriminating, but obviously there is no true answer to this question. I would however like to create a list that includes both older and newer fragrances.

Also, these need not be ones that you think are the greatest smelling. Some may be included on this list because of how controversial they are, which leads to them being frequently discussed.

I'll start us off with a few that I think should be on the list. Feel free to disagree.

    Chanel, Pour Monsieur (1955)
    Yves Saint Lauren, Kouros (1981)
    Creed, Green Irish Tweed (1985)
    Issey Miyake, L'Eau D'Issey pour Homme (1994)

Thank you for your assistance. I really admire this community of fragrance connoisseurs.

The men's scents by Guerlain, the men's scents by Chanel, the men's scents by Dior, and the men's scents by Hermes. Once those are smelled and or known, the foundation for discussing and evaluating everything else is rewardingly possible.

This! Well.. unfortunately I haven't gotten to try any Chanel but Dior, Guerlain, and Hermes are unbelievable.
