Question Marc Jacob's BANG is now available at Bloomingdale's - has anyone tried it yet?

Interested in the views of this one - I usually find his scents too light for me.

Haven't tried it yet, but I hope it's good because I love the bottle.

Octavian gave Bang a really unexpected review. It sounds like it is very good.

Looks like Jacobs went the Tom Ford school of sexploitation!
"I exist for myself, and for those to whom my unquenchable thirst for freedom gives everything, but also for everyone, since insofar as I am able to love - I love everyone. Of noble hearts, I am the noblest - and the most generous of those that yearn to give love in return. - I am a human being, I love death and I love life."

Bang is modern and abstract, of a deceiving purity. Though, I wish it was 5 times more concentrate and tenacious! It belongs to that particular type of perfumes that make a perfect blend with the the skin - you do not fell "perfumed" and it slowly evaporates from your pores. Unlike the ad, it is not aggressive but tender."
    - quote from Octavian.

see this sums it up for me - a light skin scent that fades. I'll pass on this one.

What? Where does he say it's a skin scent? Because this does not smell perfumed, or lacks insane tenacity does not make it a skin scent! The quote says "Bang is modern and abstract, of a deceiving purity." Coming from a fragrance historian this means something! While it is light, it's also deceivingly robust.

I didn't know Yann Vasnier was the nose. I love many of his fragrances. I will try this when I see it.

Tried a sample yesterday, and it didn't do much of anything for me. It's not a bad scent by any means, but it's the most "skin scent" scent i've ever tried: zero projection, very very subtle, completely discordant with the crazy bottle.

So you won't even try it based on this short passage which doesn't necessarily say what you think it does? Wow, Octavian must be a fragrance god to you! Well thank god there is always more Joop Homme at the Perfumania.

Wow, Octavian's review has me gotten me all curious - I love subtle, skin scents. The Bang AD is certainly going to keep away most straight males, I suspect it will be replaced with something less gay rather soon.
I agree with Mike that Yann Vasnier is quite an amazing talent.

I smelled it yesterday. Very reminiscent of Terre d'Hermes, but not quite as powerful. The bottle design is fantastic and I bet it will be a popular scent, given how fashionable pepper scents and Marc Jacobs are.

Oh, I'll try it some day but will not be aggressive on my search or will it be top on my list. Yes thank god for Joop (!) Homme for it truly is scents like this that I gravate more to.

I've been wearing it for the last two days and I am with Octavian on this Bang is unexpectedly good and it is so very anti-sillage as to be surprising.
The real surprise for me is how much, much better this is than Bleu de Chanel.
I don't get the Terre D'Hermes comparisons as they arenot similar at all on my skin. It opens with a full black pepper note almost sneeze-inducing before settling into an extremely close wearing fragrance. If I pull my nose to my elbow I smell it loud and clear but if I pull my nose slightly away it is undetectable.
for those who love to fill up a room with their vapor trail they will hate Bang. for me who likes the opportunity to wear something good that is only for me and those I let close Bang is going to be good.
I'll say it right now Bang is the best men's mainstream release of the year, in my opinion.

Thanks SMM! Just what I was hoping for! Low sillage, comfort scent that smells really good. I have enough sillage producers. My bottle comes on Monday and I am as jumpy as ever now.

    COOL!

Black pepper and I are friends. This could be good.

This low-sillage mainstream thing could become annoying, however. Bleu de Chanel's lack of commitment is bad enough. I prefer something in between skin scents and sillage-throwers - something that sends wisps of fragrance into my personal space. If Bang can do that on my skin, great. But if not, I may have to settle for something else. Skin scents from go are not my bag.

    Just tried it today.

To oversimplify, imagine CDG's Incense: Jaisalmer (like the charred smoky remains of a piney cedar forest after a fire) with even more Iso E Super and a bunch of peppery vetiver on top (like Sycomore).

I think the "skin scent" complaints are mainly based on the Iso E Super, which the wearer can barely smell while the people around him get massive smoky wood silage.

I was shocked to smell it, this is my kind of frag, 100%. And I'm used to paying well over $100 to smell like this, so I'm quite happy. Please let this be a huge hit!

Oh, and I echo the complaints about Blue de Chanel. Just awful lowest-common-denominator designer aquatic dreck.

    OM#G.

    This sounds like a winner.

On an [Iso E Super + pepper] overall detectability scale between Burberry The Beat For Men (0) and Poivre Samarcande (100), where would you place this?

OK, take equal parts cedar, pine, vetiver, and black pepper and dump them in a vat of Iso E Super. On paper at least, it's about a 9.5, but we're talking black pepper, not bell peppers.

    That's 9.5/10 or 9.5/100? (just checking - I probably should have used 10 instead of 100). If it's 9.5/10, I'm making a special trip to find this sucker a.s.a.p.

Some places (like Fragrantica) are saying that Ann Gottlieb is the perfumer. Scented Salamander says merely that she and Givaudan are involved in the creation (see exact wording here). More details desired.....

Ann created, among other things, Axe Dark Temptation - one of the best scents ever, IMO. She goes boldly.

I already wrote this in my Sample of the Day notes, but I was surprised how much they're pushing the gay angle on Bang. Apparently, Marc Jacobs has been quite the A-List gay for some time, but I didn't know it until this ad came out. For the big launch at Bloomingdales today they had a dj spinning very gay house music while shirtless bodybuilder guys danced and handed out samples with "Bang!" written on their chests. If you bought a bottle during this special launch, you got to have your picture taken with the Bang Boys! I can't imagine that they could possibly have sold a single bottle to a straight man today.

Sure, I'm in San Francisco and we do things a little differently here (including cologne launches), and I'd assume that, at least around here, way more gay men than straight men wander through the Bloomingdales perfume department, but I'd assume this is a planned promotional event put together by Marc Jacobs and Bllomingdales and they're doing the same in NY and LA, but I can't imagine them pulling this off in Kansas or Texas. OK, maybe Houston...

Personally, I am not into skin scents. I will try this if I run across it, regardless but don't think it will be my thing.

I've had it on for the past few hours. It's mellow and niche like. Actually reminds me of Mark Birley for Men with a hint of Moulton Brown Black Pepper. Pleasant, almost too pleasant. This is gonna be a hit with the office wearers.

The print ad should have been Alan Alda in a cardigan and khakis smiling for the camera.

nvrlnd said it above - "discordant with the crazy bottle". Indeed. It's Yanni headlining with opening act Metallica.

Wow - I am missing out here in Timbuktu. Bleu de Chanel everywhere, and not a drop of Bang or Aventus to be had.
