Exclamation :: Becoming Much More Selective with What Fragrances to Wear ::

This is a bit of a rant of sorts, but Iím becoming MUCH more selective with what I wear nowadays. If Iím not completely enamored with the fragrance, Iím finding I just simply wonít wear it and the bottle collects dust (hence the many scents have for sale in my for sale thread).

Also about purchasingÖ Iím now sampling more and not buying at the rate I used to. I used to give a quick smell, some brief thoughts and buy. Now, Iíve been sitting on the same samples for weeks, heck some for monthsÖ anywayÖ

So all and all, Iím now much more selective with what I wear. Kinda only the best of the best (to my liking).

Iím done with wearing fragrances just to Ďgo through a bottleí.
If I donít absolutely love it, Iím not wearing it.
If I find it Ďnice & okayí, Iím not buying it.
If it smells Ďgood, but not a favoriteí, Iím selling it.

    What about you?

I like where you're going with this. I took the same route 5 years ago but in a more concise manner.
Imagine doing this with everything in your life. I no longer eat fast/junk food. I will only eat at proper restaurants. I only meet good friends . Meaning no " let's meet because we went to school together 10 years ago but we have nothing in common " scenarios.

    I feel refreshed

I still buy fragrances recklessly and probably will continue to do so in the near future.

I am going the same route as you. I sample a lot, and buy maybe 1 out of 10 or 20 that I sniff. I've already got too many bottles that don't get used.

    ^^ exactly.

I'm getting sick of looking at a collection of 60 bottles, and really only truly LOVE about 30 of them.

Then I feel I have to wear the others "because I bought them". NO MORE!

Try only loving 5-10 of them.

I hear ya. I have about 10 I just cannot live without. The other 15-20 are nice to wear and I enjoy them enough. They keep me from wearing only the same 10 over and over.

The other 30 though... jeeze, I regret buying in the first place.

Other than sampling I typically wear what I love.

I have an ongoing, highly selective process, the details of which have been written before. Even old standbys are subject to evaluation. My nose has become rather keen (or changed) and I can pick up on reformulations/bad batches etc.

Every time a fragrance is worn, it is a pass/fail test.

There are too many options out there NOT to only wear what you love. The trick is sifting through the masses to locate the ones you'll love, long term. So much mediocrity out there. Sitting on samples for months is a good way to figure it out.

Yup i agree. my buying spree has come to a ginding halt after 60 or some bottles.
i dont find any fragrances that DO anything for me anymore. plus if i lost half or 3/4 of my present collection i wouldnt re-buy them. in the end 10-15 would do just fine.
I take a bottle of wine and I go drink it among the flowers.
We are always three ... counting my shadow and my friend the shimmering moon
Happily the moon knows nothing of drinking, and my shadow is never thirsty
When I sing, the moon listens to me in silence. When I dance, my shadow dances too.
After all festivities the guests must depart. This sadness I do not know.
When I go home, the moon goes with me and my shadow follows me
